Default Sad RX face

My RX was involved in a small mishap. The front bumper, grill, are damaged along with the hood and who knows what else. The car went into a pick up truck. Is it unusual to be quoted approximately $5000? When I inquired about the possibility of some "used" parts because the car is a '99 I was told there are very few around because the cars are still running and selling. Any thoughts? Also, I was also sent to an "authorized" Lexus body shop. Is there really such a thing?

Chances are the A/C radiator got damaged as well. That alone is $1,400. New bumper, grille, hood, plus a paint job could run about $5,000.

Lexus does not endorse any particular body shops. It's probably a shop screened by your local Lexus dealer that does quality work and match the paint correctly.

Thanks. Yes, I do know that the local dealer does use them. They sent my car there when it got a tiny dent in the door at their dealership.

Lexus dealer is the worse place to get body works. They don't own body shop and typically outsource it. Authorized means you just pay the dealer additional $.
I just checked Ebay. New OEM Bumper $175 shipped, grill $154 shipped, new hood $361 shipped, just find a good body shop to paint bumper and hood for you. I bet you can save more than 70%.

Thanks. I didn't bring it to Lexus to have estimated. I just brought it to that shop for an estimate. I'm not going to have it done at the Lexus recommended shop as it turns out. Fortunately, I have little experience in this whole debacle and it wasn't my 400h.
