Default 2002 RX300 Nav. System Versions

Hi, All,

I'm a new owner of an 2002 RX300 and I'm trying to figure out a few things involving the Navigation system. Any expertise that could be sent my way would be sincerely appreciated.

1. The system shows a current version of "2000 Ver. 1." Should this be the DVD version that should have come in a 2002, i.e., was "2000 Ver. 1" the "latest-and-greatest" at that time? Or, should it have had a 2001 or 2002 version in it?

2. What are the part numbers of nav. DVDs made subsequently, ones that can work in a 2002 RX300, of course? Is there a site out there where I could find this information myself? I'd like to check out online auctions to see what they're asking for disks that would fit my vehicle.

and

3. One of the auto review websites said that in 2002 it became possible to view DVDs on the front nav. system display (presumably while not in motion). Does anyone know if this is true? Would this be by directly replacing the nav. system DVD with the entertainment DVD?

Thanks for any help anyone can give!

Brad

#1 My 2002 RX300 also came with 2000 ver. 1. I upgraded to 2003 recently.

#2 You need "upgrade" version of Nav DVD. Do a search for my DVD upgrade procedure. BEWARE: Most Nav DVDs sold on eBay are not upgrade DVDs.

#3 No.

I have heard some truth to this. Someone on CL had actually mentioned that the back of the navi screen actually had a tuner input so you could put a lexus dvd changer into it. Im not sure exactly how to do it, but i really would like to find out because that would be awesome.

The RX 330 is able to display a DVD running on the Rear Seat Entertainment System from a disc in that player. The nav DVD is a data disc, a different animal altogether. You will find that a much cheaper solution is an aftermarket DVD system if you are looking for a way to play movies. Sorry, no tuner input either. You might consider a KVH Satellite system - and while you're tossing money around, get one with broadband!
