rx300 o2 sensors
I have a 2001 RX 300 with 90K. I am looking to replace the oxygen sensors. I have done this myself on other cars before, but was just wondering how many sensors were on the RX. Advance auto parts says there are 2, one upstream and one downstream. Also, the cost of the sensors at advance is $328 and $222. I thought that was rather high. Has anyone found better prices? Thanks.

You may want to do a search on this and other RX sites. Sometimes discussions on other Lexus models using the same engine yield better results. There has been some discussion on aftermarket sensors. But why would want to change an expensive part, that is not part of regular maintenance, and odds are may never require replacement in a normal owners period of ownership? Unless, of course, you are getting a failure code. Here is a link to one of the discussions: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums...showtopic=7630

There is no need to change O2 sensors unless they have failed, in which case you will have a check engine light on (and you'll need to figure out what is causing that light).
Best bet is to use OEM parts, getting it from a Toyota dealer would probably be cheaper, the Highlander uses the same engine as the RX300.

O2 Sensor confusion
I've been reading these forums and have determined that I need the sensor for BANK 1 SENSOR1
a poster (sorry didn't copy the name) states that they are the same
bank1 is the rearward bank, bank2 is front most.
Toyota/Lexus part# 89467-48011
Alldata lists the parts as:
Front 8946748011
Rear 8946549075
So which is the correct part # for BANK 1 SENSOR 1.
thanks.

Go to irontoad.com and leave them a message asking for price quote and correct part number or give them a call. They are a Lexus dealer that sells over the internet and have been helpful in the past. You also may want to check oxygensensors.com which has part #s complete with pictures. Also newlexusparts.com has part #s and prices.
Also make sure you check the obvious before allowing a code to lead you to down the wrong path to a sensor. Check this link, here is a poster who got an estimate from the dealer for over $800 to change the sensors but it was only the hose behind the airbox:

Changed O2 Sensor 1 Bank1
This morning I changed O2 Sensor 1 Bank1.
The reason for my confusion was that I had called IronToad and they gave me the part #
89467--48011
AllData shows the info I posted above which says the 8011 should be the front
Since I had the part already in my hands, I decided to just install what I had since it looked identical.
I removed the old part which is part# 89467--48010 must just be older.. who knows.
With the 8011 part installed, I cleared the Check Engine light and followed all of the readiness cycles until all monitors passed their readiness tests.
Also, since I couldn't find pictures of the location of the sensor, I've attached one to help people locate theirs in the future.
The picture is taken lying under the car in the middle and looking forward at the engine.
