Smile Rx300 - 2001

I just a bought a used 2001 RX300 with 45k miles on it, drives really good, has a sports package. I bought it from a Lexus dealer.

Does anyone know of recurring problems with this model, has anyone had any major problems that I need to know, as I want to get them fixed before my warranty (50k) ends .. very soon.

Your help will be appreciated.

Love the car .. oops .. SUV !

Thx

Default 2001 RX300

I purchased a CPO 2001 RX300 in May. Ive had it in for warranty work once. Had a couple of problems.

On the moonroof. If the sliding cover is all the way back. And you start the car on a hot day. Turn the AC on and start driving. You will hear a clicking noise for about 30 minutes then it goes away. The best way to describe it is a relay clicking on and then off. Its not loud. But you will hear it with the stereo playing.

I did some research on this web page. And found that its the plastic molding around the moonroof. With the cold air hitting it. The temperature change makes the clicking noise. When I took it in. The Lexus dealer knew all about it. They insulated the moonroof. And no more clicking.

The second problem was with the back door. It was hard to open. If you puilled on the handle and let go. It would go up about 1/3 of the way and stop. You then had to push hard to get it to go all the way up. Looking at some postings on the subject. Lexus charges about 500 dollars to change out the two shock absorbers. So I had them replaced.

So far that been the only problems ive had. Its an excellent car. Now if i could just figure out what the the squirrel cage noise is from under the glove box. I will be all set.

Your suggestions were well appreciated.
When you mentioned the back door, the two shock absorbers were they for back door ?

Yes, The two shocks are for the back / hatch door. Ive seen a couple of postings on guys having trouble with them. So I went and had them done.

Thumbs up Welcome Aboard!

Welcome to CL, Mmanek! You've got a great ride there. The only possible problems you might want to check out (because the fix is expensive) is oil gelling. MAF and O2 Sensors have also been an issue as you near 50K. Look over the posts in the Engine and Transmission Sections for details.

With a CPO vehicle you should have an additional warranty extending the original factory warranty to 100,000 miles and 3 years from your date of purchase. Check the Lexus site here. It's probably worth a call to your dealer to be sure.
