Intermittant Whining Noise on RX300
We own a 2003 RX300 and started experiencing an intermittant whining noise that appears to coming from the rear of the RX300. We have noticed this whining noise mainly in town going anywhere from 5-35 mph. The noise has been intermittant since it first started about 3 months ago. The whining noise doesn't occur every day and may be heard several times during the day or only once or twice. We have taken it to a Lexus dealer in the Kansas City area but since the whining noise didn't occur when it was there, they couldn't fix it. They say they checked with Lexus but no one else has reported or had a problem similar to this. They did make several adjustments to the tires, wheels, roof rack, etc. and the whining noise was gone for about a month but has returned. Has anyone else out there had a problem like this? It gets annoying and the dealer has pretty much said that we will just have to wait until it is making the whining noise all the time before they can do anything about it. HELP!

Whining noise
Do you notice this primarily in colder weather?
Have you had the trani, transfer case or diff. serviced 3 months ago?
If so, I suspect incompatability of viscocity of gear oil used in that the whining you hear may be gear whining due to gears not fully coated.
I noticed this on my 540i when I drained the trani and filled. The first couple of shifts gave me a funny whining sound..
Maybe someone can shine more light..
Good luck,
Fern
