Default External Temperature Display Issue

My 99 has started to have problems with displaying the external temperature on the central stack display. It can be 20+ degrees off, either way. In my experience with other cars, this usually indicates a problem with the wiring to/at the sensor or the sensor itself. Does anyone have a location or picture of the sensor and a chart for testing the sensor? Thanks.

Partial information here:

Sensor is located in the front gill area and is not protected from minor fender bender and more so in extreme case front collision. You have to get on your knees and peer through the air slots.

As noted the temperature is not an accurate reading at all and it takes about 10 minutes or so to catch up to a change [my estimate] and even then it will be off by 5-10degrees F.

Yeah, these aren't the most precise in the world, but this one's just reading well out of the accepted range it so I'd like to replace it or at least check the wiring/casing for damage.

I didn't see it in the grille area, is it down in the cooling ducts below the bumper?

Ah, okay, that's where it is. I should be able to find it from there.
