RCF vs old C63 vs E90 M3 vs M4 vs C63S
Peak. I wonder how much it lost throughout the band. I would have thought a track edition with launch control and higher final drive would have done better than 12.7. I was thinking my much portlier non launch control RCFs were 12.8 cars.
A little surprised by the old C63...wow.

Gen 1 RCF had done a few 12.7s and a 12.5s with MT with '18 RCF, but it is more about the cars in the same condition as these guys don't do 1-foot roll out like the magazines/drag strips do.

That drag race was pretty fun to watch. But I could’ve predicted that outcome without even viewing the video. W204 facelift C63 are extremely fast cars especially considering the car has such skinny tires (255 rears). The newer W205 C63’s produce way too much torque down low and even though that motor is a beast of a engine, it’s power band is not quite as linear as the older W204’s 6.2l V8. So traction off the line is a huge issue. Maybe with super sticky R888 it would’ve performed better.
The RCF is a good sports coupe, but it’s lacking in torque similarly to the old E90 M3 which only makes less then 300lb-ft. This race was all about torque/hp & without forced induction it’s just not doing much here.
The new M4 is a really a good car, it’s biggest issue is not even performance related. Most would say it’s bi-turbo setup ruins what little chance it has of sounding like a good sports car. The steering is not very communicative but that has zero to do with drag racing.

What you mentioned manifests itself in the rolling race. Matt selected 3rd gear when it is the wrong gear for 50 mph as the ratio spread is huge. 2nd gear runs to 75 mph. The difference in power between 2nd and 3rd at 50 mph is big from my personal experience. A car with gobs of midrange would be perfectly happy being in 3rd gear at 50 mph.
I would have liked to see a lap of track instead where it would be more interesting. No argument RCF would have still been slower than M4 and C63S, but definitely more interesting.

I’ve had my C63S for a new months now. Just with a tune these cars are running 11.2 on 1/4 mile (stock turbos no other supporting mods).
For cost reference, a tune will run 1500-2500 depending on vendor.

at 7:50 there is a gear change in the RCF, but his fingers aren't on the paddle shifters and yet the race started in 3rd gear manual mode. At 4:28, his right hand was off the steering wheel and there was a gear change. At 6:05, during the second dig race, another gear change and no use of paddle shifter. He's in auto pretty much during all the races, despite what he said. I guess its hard to talk on the radio and race
