Navigation Map SD (New Version 2019-2020)
I'm new to Club Lexus so be patient.
I have a 2015 Lexus RC 350 F Sport. The Navigation Map SD card is outdated and I intend to buy a new Map SD from the Lexus Dealer when it comes out in late October or November 2019.
I've been told by 2 different Lexus dealers that I have to not only buy the Map SD from and they have to install the Map SD for a total cost of approximately $400 for new Map SD and install. Map SD is $220. Both dealers said they had to hook it up to a computer.
However; I've had 2 other Lexus dealers tell me all I have to do is buy the new Map SD, eject the old Map SD and insert the new Map SD and it'll install itself. I'm confused!!! Does anyone know for sure?
Does anyone have expertise in this area; please let me know the specific instructions required to actually install the new Map SD myself.
Thanks!!

Welcome to the Club.
I believe the card goes behind the Mark Levinson panel under the climate control. If that's the case with yours then it's simple. You can probably look on youtube to find it

Just curious, why would you want to spend that kind of money to update the Navi? Do you not typically use your smartphone for Navi when driving? For that kind of money, you can do Beatsonic and use AppleCarplay.
Thanks for the responses and video. I'm considering the other options mentioned but still favor using the Navigation map. I should have made sure the map had the most current update before I bought the car, my bad. My outdated SD Card is in fact located behind the Mark Levinson panel.
A new navigation SD card has to be connected to your cars computer. They do it this way so that thieves can't simply swipe a SD card off any Toyota brand car, and plug it into another. Note: My dealership quoted me $300 for the card and installation. If Lexus is charging $400, I might try a Toyota dealership.
I have a 2015 RCF and plan to update the SD card in November.

Two Lexus Service Reps told me the same thing you stated - has to be connected to the car's computer. However; 2 other service reps said to just buy the SD card, remove the old card, insert the new card and turn on the car and it will update automatically as demonstrated in the short video VRAA was nice enough to attach. I may check with Toyota to see what they have to say. Would be really nice if someone could absolutely confirm from personal experience that they've just inserted a new SD card to update their Nav Map.

Would feel a little better before I go out and by 2 SD cards, that at least one other person out there has bought and installed their navigation SD card with no problems!

I agree with you regarding buying a SD card and installing it myself. I'm strongly leaning that way. I too realize Lexus wants to make money on service but considering I was quoted $210 for the SD card and a total of $400 for the SD card and install + tax; I think $190 is a bit much for an install that I can hopefully accomplish myself. Hopefully we'll both be successful with the SD card install.
I stumbled across this comment from gklem (clublexus) back on (02/05/18):
Update: I bought he SD card from a Lexus dealer for $210 and was told different things from the same dealership, everything from $100 to install to DYI plug and play. Thankfully the tech I got confirmed that it was indeed plug and play...don't let a dealer charge a penny for "installation."
Sound pretty convincing to me!!!

If you do decide to get a smart phone, use the app Waze and a VentGrip https://ventgripz.com/. I travel about 500 miles a week due to my job and this navigation is much better than in-car navigation.
