Default How many cats?

At the exhaust shop and the tech is saying due to emissions rules they have to cut my invidia and weld it in behind the 2nd cat?

There are 4 cats, 2 on the header, 2 on the mid pipe.

Right, they wanted to cut right behind the second cat and weld the rest of the exhaust on

I had no such issues, but I don't live in the USA. Straight bolt on and others in US have bolted it on. The secondary cats are not on Invidia and he essentially is probably trying to leave the OEM secondary cat there and only put the Invidia from the secondary to the rear section. That is like, almost an axle back. In my opinion, it will ruin the Invidia.

The emission laws vary state to state. But removing the second set of cats should not effect passing inspection or cause a check engine light as the 02 sensors read before and after the frist set of cats. There are no 02 sensors after the secondary cats, thus the ECU will not be triggered.

I would not let them chop up the exhaust. Try another shop and if they tell you the same then you know it may actually be in fact state law.

I would also say try asking around, don't let them ruin your exhaust.

That would be my recommendation. You paid for a full catback exhaust and this will essentially give you less than half the exhaust you already paid for. Go to a shop that will just install the whole thing no questions asked.

The bad air here has the govt cracking down. All the tuner shops that were once here are gone. Also bad customers stopped others from installing items brought in by the customer. This sucks

worst part about it is I have Florida plates and no emissions testing. They are scared, and I know the fines are hefty.. but I won’t tell if you don’t! Lol

its going on the car in full form, I don’t care about their laws I’m not chopping this thing up. I’ll find someone eventually but 6 shops today and I called it a day. Now to unload my exhaust from the car

Maybe, go to a nearby state and get it installed there? There are no sensors on the secondary cat so not sure what the big deal is.

I don’t know man but it’s quite irritating lol. Maybe have to try the salt lake area, bigger city and more likely to find someone who operates on the outskirts of the law

unfortunately for states with emissions, any exhaust that eliminates the secondary cats / resonators is for off road use only. The exhaust itself will have this disclaimer when purchasing. I live in FL and don't have to deal with this nonsense but many do.

for example, the disclaimer is on this Borla exahust from a forum vendor.
