Default Surprisingly good mpg driving like a civil citizen

So I decided to drive "normal" for the past few days to work and back not going over 2.5k rev on normal mode. The mpg was shockingly high for a 2 ton v8. Averaged 18.1 mpg all city for the last 60 miles, 3 days, averaging 32 mph. The car would shift into 8th gear going 44 mph, Jesus!

Then I came to my senses, and stopped this shenanigans! Within 5 miles, the mpg dropped to normal range of 15ish haha

And on the highway, at about 80, on Eco, you can exceed 26.....but only if there aren't too many opportunities to pass.

On highway I normally average 19, due to being deprived from amount of highway I travel.

after the last 3 torturous days, I have no interest in saving gas

Yes, my RC F in ECO gets better MPG than my GS350AWD in ECO. So I always equate this...

Fun in RC F = poor MPG
No Fun in RC F = great MPG

Haha...I prefer the fun but on long trips at night, I just put it in ECO and set the cruise

if it's in cruise, does the mpg really fluctuate from eco or normal? Anyone tested before?
It's just the engine is so laggy if you need to pass. That equates to possible accident

better mpg than your GS most likely bc it's a v8 so the engine runs on lower rpm

I travel from Destin to Alpharetta (north of Atlanta) 1-2 times per month in the RCF and my gas mileage has always been impressive. I'll get 26-27 mpg traveling around 85ish and periodically stretching its legs to ~100. I've never had my car in ECO, so I'm curious what that could get me.......but honestly I'm so happy with what I'm getting I never think about ECO mode. Does the engine go into atkinson cycle in "normal" mode? I'm thinking it does.

I don't know the real difference between ECO mode or normal w/ ECO on for the RC F. I would assume the latter would have less MPG do to different ECU mapping/programming which is less restrictive. I haven't verified for the MPG but good idea to check. I know that in ECO the Atkinson cycle is engaged for fuel economy and when it isn't, the Otto cycle is engaged for more power. I am not sure how/why exactly but the software/engineering of the V8 engine utilizes the Atkinson cycle more efficiently than the GS. I am thinking the 8spd vs/ 6spd transmission also plays a part...and the AWD as well. Many factors but just amazing heavier V8 gets better MPG.

I too have experienced this. The RCF just screams to be really driven!!! Above 4K rpm, of course. When I floor my CT200h the CVT and the hybrid engine system makes a lot of noise all the way to some 5K + rpm, but still not the same get up and go as in the RCF. Well, the CT200h is designed for as a different car entirely. So I'm OK with it. Good city commuter car with 40+ mpg.

I am running 265/285 tires. Lighter rims FTW.

I think I had a breeze behind me too, haha.

MPG equation:

Me + wife's IS350 + driving around town < Me + RCF + driving about town

Never figured this one out....Even driving mildly or moderately.... Only when I'm really pushing the RC does it get worse. Perhaps I'm pushing the poor V6 too hard.
