Ghoffner,
I am so sorry to hear about this. Hope everything works out. Something similar happened to me when back in 2004, bought a new Corvette Z06 and on the second day I had it, someone smashed the windshield and rear window after coming out of the movie theater.

Yeah I'm going to start doing the same. I also called a local shop in Houston about installing interior cameras as well, so I think I am going to have 2 installed right after the car is repaired.

Yeah man such a crappy feeling. It's not the money or time it's going to take to repair it, it's just the fact that somebody would stoop the that level. So infuriating.

Are you assuming the OP belongs to the mafia or something? I'm sure he'd just turn the video to the police.

About the camera OP, unless it's an ultra fancy, motion-activated rotating one, it wouldn't have caught the guy keying the car on the sides. If I were you, I'd just park the car smarter (within view of other cameras around, like you said), and not waste money installing a camera not specifically designed for what you want it, but that's just me. Good luck with the repair.

My dash cam is always on but only records when there is movement (which is all the time when driving, and when something happens in front of it while parked).

I have this one:
Amazon.com : Street Guardian SGZC12SG - Late 2015 v2 Pro Series - (GPS) - SUPER DELUXE KIT (32GB SD Memory Card / New Screw On CPL Filter & Special Mounts) DashCam with Updated 2015 Sony Exmor IMX322 CMOS Sensor OTG Android Compatible via included reader : Car Electronics Amazon.com : Street Guardian SGZC12SG - Late 2015 v2 Pro Series - (GPS) - SUPER DELUXE KIT (32GB SD Memory Card / New Screw On CPL Filter & Special Mounts) DashCam with Updated 2015 Sony Exmor IMX322 CMOS Sensor OTG Android Compatible via included reader : Car Electronics

Combined with this to protect from battery drainage:
Amazon.com : MotoPark Multi Safer Low Voltage CUT OFF Hard Wire Power Supply BDP KIT (Battery Discharge Prevention Mutli Safer Moto Park) : Camera & Photo Amazon.com : MotoPark Multi Safer Low Voltage CUT OFF Hard Wire Power Supply BDP KIT (Battery Discharge Prevention Mutli Safer Moto Park) : Camera & Photo

And then tapped into an open live fuse slot with an add-a-fuse:
Amazon.com: Littelfuse FHA200BP ATO Add-A-Circuit Kit: Automotive Amazon.com: Littelfuse FHA200BP ATO Add-A-Circuit Kit: Automotive

Sorry about the senseless damage. Totally uncalled for.

Having had damage to my prior Lexus vehicles, I don't see this as a 3K repair but +- 1K. It's filling and painting the scratch, door and rear side panel blending it out around the rest of the car so it looks seamless.

Yeah that's pretty much what Lexus said. Kind of surprised it was only going to be this much. Worst part is that they need it for 7-10 days.

^^^^THIS would be A LOT Better than what happened to him, All you had to do was just Replace your windows. Tryin' to re-sale a car that has had to be Re-Painted on 2 Doors & a Quarter Panel is a Whole Nuther' Story!

Hmmm, typically a 2-3 day (max) process, unless it's one of two things.

1. They are sending the car to a third party and are accounting for lead time/non-business days. (most likely)

2. They are getting the paint somehow baked on, but I doubt it since this is typically a factory process.

Might be worth asking though...

Jealousy comes out in nasty ways...computerized paint matching is a great thing.

Good luck with the repair.

Thanks. Yeah, I hope Lexus does a great job and it comes back good as knew. Worst part is not being able to drive it for 2 weeks...
