Yeah I just saw this from the Lexus RC Malaysian launch:



I'm curious as to what these are (as they don't look like reverse lamps)

Does anyone here know? And does your Lexus RC have this? Or not?

 

I think it might be rear fog lights.

 

Yea, good call. You might be right.

I wonder what the left taillight looks like, since in Europe they have one rear fog light in red on one side, and one white reverse light in white, in the same place as the rear fog light but on the other side.

 

Correct... In different countries it will be on different sides depending on LHD or RHD setup.


In the USA and a few other countries, Rear Fog Lamp is not a requirement and therefore is removed from the tail lamps..

If that's the case, then maybe Ford should've put that reverse fog lamp in the center position instead.

Anyways, in the Lexus RC set-up, I assume that the reverse light is just below the Rear Fog Lamp???

 

Yep. Exactly that. That one is not as bad. MOST cars in Europe have this asymmetry. It looks bad but you get used to it and then don't notice it. Look up European versions of Renault, Seat, VW, Citroen, Mazda, etc.

 

Yeah, I know EU regulation only states that you need at least one foglight and at least one reverse light. Unfortunately, I guess some auto brands take it too literally. IMHO, I think two reverse lights are better............with either one foglamp in the center or two foglights on both sides respectively.

Symmetry is best.

I always thought that it would be similar to past Lexus cars which always had two rear foglights (in select markets such as Europe or Asia Pacific). If they needed to cut costs, then they could've just placed a central fog lamp............like in the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ.

I guess at the moment, Lexus is using the assymetric approach. Oh well

P.S.
I guess you just have to buy a reverse light from somewhere.
