I recently changed my front brake pads because they were screaming at every stop! Below is everything I needed to get the job done.

They're really easy to do. Front or back. I'd say 30-45 minutes for the first corner if this is your first time doing this, then 15-20 minutes for the rest. You can always watch a video before to familiarize yourself. The process is very similar for all Lexus/Toyota cars.

 

My dealer service rep. was "jonesing" to get my wife to spend $600 to do the rear brakes on her 2010 (80K miles) when it was in for another air bag recall. She called me to appease the service guy and of course I said I do it my service thanks! When we picked up the car, wearing our Sunday best, he was determined I find out if I really knew what was involved in a brake job. After I stated "what's so hard about removing 4 bolts per side and trip to O'Riellys to turn 2 rotors for $30 and adding ceramic pads for no dust or noise?" He quit the hard sell at that point.

 

I end up replacing all four rotors and pads and the fronts were very thin (3mm left) and the rotors were very rusty in the middle. The replacement rotors have the areas painted where normally would rust. And no brake dust issues so far.

 

I wished the RCF brakes were as cheap.

Lexus dealership quoted me around $3600 for both front and rear with all new rotors and pads, parts and labor AND ALL THE COFFEE AND DONUTS I CARE TO DRINK AND EAT! LOl. I turned them down.

 

Can anyone quote the Standard and Minimum thickness for OEM Pads and Rotors for the 2015 -2019 RC F-sport models from the factory service repair manual or TIS?

 

I know my aftermarket rotor and pad thickness but have a BBK from RR not the OEM parts anymore. My front rotor is 1.26" and pad is 0.65", the rear rotor is 1.1" and pad 0.8".

 

I understand that this is an old post but my question is very Basic and brake replacement related. So, My 2016 RC 200t w/ 77k has started to squeak some and I'm wondering if I need to replace both the rotors and brake pads or just the pads. I'm definitely not a DYI'er but like to shop around and buy all the parts and then hire one of those mobile mechanics to do the actual work. This has worked well for me on my previous two Lexus'es.

So, this idea of shims to prevent squealing and vibration is totally new to me. Wondering, should I definitely purchase the Shim Kits along with whatever else (rotors and/or brake pads) to do the job right? I'm definitely looking to go with OEM type parts so please provide any advice that you think will help me get this done correctly.

 

I would just do pads for starters.

 

What I did was bought the pads and rotors, they're not that expensive, and just paid labor at a toyota dealership. Now, Belletire does this services with OEM parts and better labor price than toyota dealership.
