Why does Lexus require a moonroof for the RC 350, but not for the RC 300 or RCF?
According to the company's website, Lexus requires a moonroof for the RC 350, but not for the RC 300 or RC F (see screenshots from Lexus' website). I am interested in potentially buying an RC 350, but I don't want a moonroof. I messaged Lexus twice on Twitter, but Lexus never responded. I called Lexus on Friday, and the person to whom I spoke said he doesn't know the answer and will have to call me back next week.
If anyone on this board has any insight or hypotheses, please let me know. Thank you.

Pole Position
X2 for RCF.
If a dealer ordered an RCF without a moon roof, that dealer will have to wait for an eternity for someone special like you to show up looking for one without a moon roof. Then you probably will notice that the RCF with NO moon roof had been at the dealership for sometime and likely ask for a big discount. So the dealers tend to stock what they think will move off their lots quickest and don't want their money tied up with a "specialized optioned specimen" just sitting out there on the lot collecting dust instead of $$$.
You can always "order" the way you want it at your favorite Lexus dealer. But you will have to wait for the factory to build it and ship to you.
Quicker option is to go to your favorite Lexus dealer and talk with the fleet internet manager and see what inventory is "inbound" on the cargo ships to your area. Once you find the one you like you can ask them to put a hold for you (may require a small deposit. Just make sure the deposit is 100% refundable if you change your mind for any reason).

Thanks for the replies. ALE81, I'm assuming you had to special order your car. If so, how long did you have to wait from the order date to the delivery date? Thanks.

When I was in Florida back in 2016. JM Lexus in Fort Lauderdale area; which is one of the largest Lexus dealership in USA had few RCs models without the sunroof.
May be worth a try to contact them to see if they have cars in lot, if you, and you are willing to pay for shipping, it may work?

Hey NjDude:
Thank you very much for the reply. I will definitely remember to have my dealer check JM Lexus if/when I purchase the car. I'm going to wait until the 2018s come out before I make my purchase, but now I know what to expect in terms of wait time and availability. Thanks again.

I'm assuming you had to special order your RC 350 F Sport without the moonroof. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for the car? Was Lexus willing to negotiate on price for a special order? Did you have to put down a deposit? Was the deposit non-refundable? How long did you have to wait from the time you placed the order until the time you picked up the car?
Thanks,
Billy

I have read that sales of the RC were down 24% in 2016 compared to 2015, so this is possible.
