Looks like Lexus has no plans on making the LF-C2, which is basically the convertible RC. Which kinda defeats the purpose of the added extra structural supports that makes the car so heavy. The RC could've been a few hundred pounds lighter, which might have made it more competitive in regard to performance and handling. Hopefully Lexus lightens up the RC in the refresh.
But if you think about it, the IS C didn't sell too well...so I can see Lexus not wanting to go that direction again, for now. They would probably consider an SC replacement first and it''ll probably look similar to the LF-LC.
Lexus does need a true 3-row vehicle. I see the frustration of people who want an suv with enough room for the family that can be used on long road trips. We currently have nothing like that.
Convertibles are a dying breed in the US, where Lexus has the strongest market share. I think the last statistic I read was 1% of overall car sales. The reason the Germans all have them is because they still sell well in Europe. That may one of the reasons Lexus chose to shelve the project. However, if they want to be a strong contender in Europe they may want to rethink the strategy. The RC would have made a striking convertible.
