what i do is make a new layer

filter>find edges

then i change the contrast and brightness to the point to where there are a few black lines and a solid white background

delete the white background by selecting it with the magic wand tool

use the paint bucket tool to fill the body panels with solid colors, using "I" to use the eyedropper to select the color you are over, then releasing and clicking to fill the area with that color

then play around with the bucket some more and change the color of the whole image
