Hi! Im new to the forum and I know this might be the wrong place to ask, but, I am getting myself a Toyota Crown with the 2gr-fse engine and I really want to baby it. I want to keep the engine healthy and clean, what do you guys recommend for this? Are they reliable and if not what should I know and fix before it does something tragic. Everything helps!
Aside from oil changes, what can be done to definitely extend life?
1. No short trips at all
2. Never warm it up, wait 1 minute and drive it under light throttle
3. Running the engine to charge the battery is ridiculous
4. The best trip is long miles at light throttle
5. Redline is always bad; just because it didn't break anything so far doesn't mean it's a good idea; no engine "loves to rev"
6. Don't start it unless you're going to drive it
7. If you don't have to shut it off: don't. Most wear occurs during startup
8. More power is harmless unless you use it
What year, how many km, what is the service history?
If it does a bunch of short trips, reduce OCI.
Run the highest octane, best fuel.
Use the best oil..
Follow OEM maintenance guidelines.
