Default 1st Gen Tranny Swap

My 94' GS 300 is experiencing tranny problems i think. I put it into gear and it goes no where!! But if i keep trying it may move then eventually it will stop as though if i put it into neutral.

If i remember correctly, i read a thread where the 96,97 have different gearing in the transmission. Is this true? Does it make the car quicker off takeoff? and is this a simple swap without any need to upgrade the computer to recognize the new tranny?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

That sucks, sorry to hear about that. I haven't heard anyone brag about the 5-speed auto really being any quicker on take-off. Probably not worth the trouble. Think you can get a rebuild on your old tranny or are you going to have to get new? I was under the impression that the 4-speed was very realiable.

Well, Pianoman i am probably going to replace it with a used one... i have run across some with miles in the 59K - 75K range. Prices for these are between $650 and $815.

I really wish someone who has done a 5 speed auto tranny swap in a earlier GS could give me some advice as to problems i may encounter with the install. The 5 speed auto is faster at take off i remember that from past 0-60 times i had seen.

as far as a center console goes i was thinking when i get a gs i would try to fit the sc console so the e brake looks nice and the console too! but for the rest i suggest ask a shop that handles trannies.just my 2 cents.
