Default Engine mount replacement

So I'm doing a engine mount replacement this week my old ones are shot and caused a crazy jerk that shook the entire car as if someone plowed into the back of my GS. So my question is does anyone have tips on how to safely lift the engine? I know the oil pan is the spot but I don't want to dent it or cause any damage. Has anyone done this before if so could you share your experience? I am more then aware of how to replace them and how difficult it possibly could be but that's fine with me I'd rather do it myself then pay a mechanic 1000 for the job.

I looked through your other post and saw that you have a GS300. I know most of us probably did jack up from the oil pan even though it’s not technically the right way. Search here for the write up on the DIY, but if I remember correctly it was easier when I removed the oil filter. Also I had a hard time getting one of the mounts to drop in because I was putting the smaller post in place and trying to tilt the engine to get in the long post. When I calmed myself down I put the longest post in first and the mount dropped right in.

If you are doing this on the ground. No lift. You will be better off placing a floor jack with a block off wood on the pan and actually removing the mounts with their brackets from the sides of the engine. The drivers side is worse because of the oil mess it makes removing the filter housing. I'd even do it that way too next time if I had too. I went after just the mounts, which I had to raise the engine as high as possible and lower the sub-frame, (and still using great pry-bar force) got them in. I also had an evap line near the brake booster pull out from the distance I had the engine/frame apart and cause an engine light a day later. It's better to remove the brackets and not put so much stress on other parts.
