Is there a fix for low idle?
Hello all, I purchased a 98 gs4 about 1 month ago and the car is perfect except for the low idle. It happens most when it is hot out, around 75 or higher. I have searched the forum about the low idle but it seems as if there is not a fix. I see members have had there maf or tcu replaced or clean but it was a temporary fix.I have taken it to the dealer and they can't duplicate the problem but they notice the low idle.. Is there an ecu update for this car? I have read the problem is on the 98-00 gs4, In Columbia, SC there are not many gs4 on the street, but the gs3's are common. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks..
Although I don't have this problem with my 99 GS4, I'll chime in because I've followed the threads with great interest.
It appears you know as much about this problem as anyone else at this point, i.e. there is not a single fix that works every time to solve the same symptom.

hey babygs< welcome to the wonderful world of lexusville. great and in my opinion some of the best made cars period
only one problem , the low idle will annoy the crap out of you until Lexus corp. decides to fess up and admit the problem and the fix . I firmly believe it is software problem within fuel /air mapping with no load on engine . when you drive with no ac on , just turn on your park lights and that will raise your idle back to normal

I "fixed" mine by leaving the parking lights ( you can use headlights instead) in their on position. When you remove the key from the ignition and exit the car they'll go off. Not the perfect solution , but now I never feel the low idle when I have the A/C off during the day etc.
In lieu of a permanent fix, it works for me.

Funny I stumbled into this thread again.......
Last weekend, when it was rainy and humid, I drove around with full lights on, and AC from time to time, and I still had the L/I.
I think I'm going to start keeping a log to determine what environmental fctors might be contributing to this. i.e. humidity?
