Default Dual ECU GTE setup?

I've tried searching around a bit and haven't seen anybody that's done this. I want to go with a GTE set up in my GS, but I'm moving out to Cali in a few months. The swap can be done there as long as you can pass a ref inspection and they give you that awesome BAR sticker. This was just an idea that popped up in my head since I've seen that piggyback ECU's work fine in this situation, but they can be a bit spendy.
So back to my question here... Has anyone with a GTE swap done a dual ECU setup on their car to have all the GTE functionality on the JDM ECU while maintaining OBD2 and sensor monitoring with the USDM ECU?
Let me know what guys think.
