I used a pair of plier and bend the ride sideways, folding them both left and right and then they just separated from the bottom of the box.

I did the same mod on my air intake box last month and I must say i'm pretty pleased with the results. Not sure why didn't do it sooner. It does make a noticeable difference in sound, a very nice sound. I couldn't stop doing a quick, hard acceleration after the first few weeks I had it done, lol.
Only thing I didn't do was shave the fins on the inside. Seemed like too much trouble for what it's worth.

Awesome DIY.
Are you still using the stock filter and Intake tube to the engine?

Nice DIY. Not sure where it's listed at $150 though. Sewell sells the F-Sport lower intake box for $68 with the CL discount

Yes, everything is still OEM parts. The lower box simply has a hole cut in it and has the air baffles removed. Same top box, filter, and intake pipe.

Did you click on the photobucket links.
I did this to my car and it's an awesome mod.

If anything, it will negatively affect MPG since you will more likely step on the gas pedal harder just to hear the engine screams
