Default VVTi cam gear/cam seal oil leak

My 1998 GS300 has been leaking oil and burning it off the engine block. It smells pretty bad when I'm at a stop or if I park and get out to smell it. I had a mechanic friend check it out and he said it's the cam seal gone bad. After doing some reading I've come to the conclusion that one of my cam seals might be bad as it is a common 2JZ problem. Another common leaker is the VVTi gear.

I'm going to be replacing both cam seals and the VVTi cam gear O-ring I just baught. While I'm at it I'm also doing the timing and drive belt, NGK Super Platinum dual electrode plugs, oil change and new intake filter.

Is there anything else I should consider doing?

Valve cover gaskets and throttle body cleaning.
I would also reseal the cam caps at the cam seals.

Good luck

Hi Frank, can you elaborate on the resealing of cam caps? What is needed for this? I plan to do what VIP listed above very soon. Thanks

You will need some Toyota FIPG or, I used Permatex® Ultra Grey®

Here's a link to the write up I did on the job.

New valve cover gasket, cam seals and VVT-i pulley

I'm going to be replacing the timing belt also. Just off the top of your head, do you happen to know what the torque specs are for the crank bolt and the cam gear bolts?
