Default Exhaust Mods - Regrets?

Anyone do an exhaust mod on the GS and regret it? Noise? Drone? Power loss (Sometimes you can gain peak power and lose midrange)?

Not a regret because I didn't do it, but the PO had deleted the 2 mufflers which causes annoying drone from around 1200-1900 RPM and goes away upon cruising or not as bad at higher RPM when being a douchebag driver. Other than this, I believe the car has a healthy mix of engine + exhaust noise under high power running, but I'm going to look for a setup that removes as much of the drone as possible while keeping that V8 growl noticeable.

I have a couple times. Regretted it I mean.

Had an M3 I used to track. Was doing a 2 day track event. Was going to get inspection in a couple days so, I needed to switch to my stock exhaust. Did the first track day on my hot exhaust and catless. Then switched that evening and did the second track day on the stock exhaust. I basically got the same laptimes both days (decent lap times too).

After that, I'm not convinced most aftermarket exhaust give you any performance benefits.

OP is specifically asking for GS experience..So why the M3 story...

IDK..sometimes i think its just me living in a dream...

OP... exhaust on a GS unless FI does nothing but change tone without any added performance. On a 300 you will loose power from any larger than stock piping. on a 400 no power loss before 2.36 anything larger No BUENO.. restriction on the 400 is the headers, replace with PPE/S&S and gain lost power. axle back would probably be the best choice..

To answer your question, Yes i regret trying out 4 different set ups before going back to OEM..

If my OEM pipe didn' t have holes I would leave it on, I am content with OEM reliability. But in this case, it leaks....

Was pondering getting rid of the first muffler, but no more than that, and a cleaner Y, or just go to Duals there and an H-pipe. At the point of them being so close, X or H makes virtually no difference.

I have a completely modified system, read my OBX Header install thread, most recent I changed the muffler from a stainless blow through type Magnaflow to the XL Magnaflow muffler. Both have 3" single inlet 2 1/2 duel outlet, the XL has a LOUD drone at 1900-2100 but other than that I love the noise and increase HP from stock 228 to modified 247

I modified my exhaust quite a bit. After the two cats it's straight piped. I have no regrets to say the least lol it's not too loud in the cabin but outside it's insanely loud. Did it last winter. Drone isn't too bad but it's present at around 2,000 rpm and it screams at 3,000
