Default Borla "Stainless Steel Rear Section"

http://www.borla.com/products/produc...=11733&ref=cat

Does anybody have this installed on their GS400, if so how do you like it?
Also are there any less expensive alternitives that are just as good?

There are so many mufflers available for these cars it's crazy, and a lot of them cost let than those do. Some also come with y-pipes like the tanabe and fujitsobo but obviously those will usually be more expensive, except the topspeed/ebay brands that cost practically nothing and do include y-pipes...

HKS
Greddy
Blitz
Apexi
Fujitosbo
5Zeigen
Junction Produce (although $1000+)
Tanabe
L-Tuned
RMM
Top-Speed Pro 1 (old style)
New style Top Speed that is the same as 2-3 other ebay brands.

There's prob a half dozen others I'm not recalling as well. And these are the ones you see imported to the US. In Japan there's probably two dozen more crazy brands of mufflers for these cars most people never heard of.

Can the brands like topspeed and the ebay brands compete with the quality from that of a borla system?

I have the Borls SS and love it. It doesn't have to be a full catback to provide more power; it is designed the way it is as a rear section because the folks over at Borla decided this is how it would work best. Besides, if you change the rest of the exhaust to larger piping you will lose low end torque. If you are staying stock or just some bolt ons, get the Borla. If you plan on turbo or supercharging then yes, a catback system such as tanabe will work better.

Is this borla rear section the same exact thing as just getting two borla mufflers? what is the difference between the two?

Yes, you will get 2 borla rear section only mufflers. Its just the can and the exhaust tips. I have the same ones. The thing I like about this exhaust is that there is no droan when cruising at highway speeds on the V8 GS's. I cannot comment on the I6 models
