Unhappy Intake = Check Engine Light~!!!

Hey people i just recently got a used R.S. Akimoto intake for my 2000 Gs 300... here is my story... i got it late at night from a guy that was sellin his... i was like koo for the price... so i got it all happy willie got a new toy... all happy installed (while the ecu fuse was unpluged) took about 10 min to install... and another 10 min to make sure everything is perfect... makin the vaccume lines perfect length... repluged the ecu bak in and started the car up... just in idle u could hear that thing just suckin i was like yea... willie got intake -=)... and was ready to take it for a spin... i was like yea... it's was pretty koo loved the sound and the lil more performance gain i got... from there about 3-4 day's later i was on the freeway with 2 other pretty big people in my car... i was just crusin and they were like will show me that intake u got... so i like ok and i punched it and work the motor a lil bit... but as we were gettin off the freeway i look down at my gauges and my engine light was on... i was like wtf crap... drove down to autozone... for them to plug it and c the code that comes up... it was like p171 or something code that people keep gettin... i was like crap man this suxs went home and try resettin the ecu.. but this time i took the negative from the battery... and then pulled the ecu fuse out also... let it sit for lil bit and repluged everything.. this time when i started it up my engine was trippin... clickin like crazy... seem like it wanted to stall but didn't... i was like uhh should i turn it off or leave me... i left it cause i was also thinkin that it was reajusting itself... and about 5-8 min later it stopped the clickin and was idling smoothly now... i was like oo yea i think it fixed it... but then took it for a drive but when i was ready to take off in first gear.. the car lagged like hell i step on it and the few secounds later it will take off... but i just drove around on the streets and the hoped on the freeway also hopeing my car won't die on me... and got off a couple exit's later and was comin bak home... but noticed at the end the lag time was gone... but i was wondering also did anybody had a problem with there intake...and i was also thinkin about gettin the apexi computer when i got my intake but told myself to hold off on that... but i think taht will fix the problem that i'm runnin lean or something... please people hlep me out if the check light is goin to come on again... or is my car goin to do that laggy thingie it does... cause this morning it did it again...

thanx william

Are you absolutley positive you've got the vacuum hoses set back up properly? The hesitation sounds like a vacuum leak.

OR

Sounds like the ECU hasn't fully adjusted yet. I've never reset the ECU by pulling the fuse; I've used the battery-disconnect method only; not sure if doing both at the same time has anything to do with it.

How long did you let it set before you plugged everything back in? Your post was a little unclear. I usually allow for a good 20 min just to be absolutely sure.

I'd try pulling the cable, and letting it set overnight, then letting it run / idle for a few minutes in teh morning.

Default i did

i did that this morning while after i did a oil change... i let the car with the battery thingie off for like around a hr... and then started it up and as soon as i did it was idleing very very low... and felt like it was goin to stall... but i was like screw it and c if it will fix itself... and it did... i now ideling fine... and seem's like everything is ok... but now i noticed something else i dont' know if i'm just paranoid or something... but when i was at the drive thru at burgerking tonight... i was sittin there wating for the car if front of me to leave... again i was there sittin just lookin at my cluster and when i hear the fan kick in my idel went up and was around 7500 just sittin there and when the fan kicked off it dropped back down.. i think it's normal but never really noticed it... but thanx for the reply (i really love ur car) haha i order myself a greddy lip also... but freakin stupid people at the docks had to be on strike and gosh darn it my lip is just sucked there...

thanx again william
