Well I also posted in the same thread as slowdiver about my S&S cracking on my SC400 which we were 2 of the 5 that PPE got after S&S went out of business. I pulled mine out & welded them up too. I "think" the passenger side has held up, but it sounds like the driver side is leaking again. I also just today paid PPE for my new set, but gotta wait till the ISF group buy is filled before they can start on mine. My whole new setup will be like bcsc400's exhaust. Exact custom Y pipe & everything. I cant wait to see my dyno #'s after that.

Sorry Rock to hear about your suspected cracking too. I thought the samething about my exhaust leak too, between header & cat when I found the real problem. Good luck. You saw my pics, if yours are cracked in the same place as mine, then you will not be able to see the cracks from the bottom unless you use one of those special automotive mirrors or look down through the top.

part of the cracking problem btw could be blamed on blown engine/tranny mounts.....PPE also has a flex coupler they sell if needed which will further help reduce this issue
Flex coupler? do you know off hand if it will adapt to the SS?

Well really the flex coupler would need to be used after the cats. So there really wouldnt be a need for them to adapt to the S&S directly, unless you were going no cats.

My S&S will be up for sale for cheep after I install the PPE's, so that might be a cheeper way to go, than having your friend fab a whole new set.

What size is the exhaust after the cat? If I remember correctly it is around 2.25". We have them on our site for $25.24 each shipped. But I can do them for $40 for the pair shipped if anyone wants them.

-Paul

i dunno what size piping my greddy exhaust is though....anyone confirm its 2.25" AFTER the cat?

well sakataj, you kinda got a problem. The problem is that your Greddy exhaust is stainless steel. I really doubt that the flex coupler's PPE sells is stainless, I could be wrong. But if you paid the money I think you paid for your exhaust, you really wouldnt want to chop your greddy & weld in a non stainless steel flex coupler (1) for looks (2) it gonna rust faster. These couplers would be welded in right behind the 2nd O2 sensors.

I spoke to Paul about the flex coupler and he also told me it wasn't necessary. We will see. I'm getting my car back in a few days after a few other mods are installed. My mechanic who is a Lexus Master Technician said this was the most difficult header install he has ever done. Much harder than the S&S headers which he did on my car at least 3 times. I suspect this has to do with some of the issues the other CL member had during install. I'm not looking forward to the labor cost on this and I'm sure this is why there are so many sets up for sale in the classifieds. I didn't have time to get all of the info on why it was so difficult to install, but will add more details later after I pick the car up. He also mentioned he didnt like the way the headers looked due to the numerous welding points.

I'm glad I picked up 2 new engine mounts and a tranny mount. He said all 3 were cracked and I only have 135K miles on my car. Looks like this is a must do in conjunction with the header install. I'm hoping this will help to prevent any cracking issues. Only time will tell.

Well that depends on what size exhaust you have running after you cats. If you running 2.5 thats too big, unless your blown or turbo'd. So probably 2.25 .

Yea Im hoping its really only a GS thing. Cause ill be doing a full install @ my exhaust shop. So if I get the whole exhaust off & start having a major problem with the new headers, its gonna completely screw my whole day, & ill have to put all my old exhaust back on till the header's are replaced or fixed. But im pretty optimistic everything will be just fine. It seems like there was only one guy that the driver's side header was not in the right position & PPE replaced it.
