Just got a K&N drop in air filter for our GS430 and will install it tonight. The very first MOD!!!!!

I have K&N in every cars we have ever own and have enjoyed the fact that there is no need to buy a new air filter ever again. The slight performance and gas mileage increase are added bonuses.

I've concluded the K&N drop in really did make a difference on my car. This past weekend I used a K&N filter cleaner kit I bought off eBay to clean the filter. Not totally sure I did it right but I tried to follow the directions. Boy was the filter dirty!

I ordered mine from Martel Brothers (www.martelbros.com), shipping is free. Less than $35 for the K&N filter for our '01 GS430 (KNN33-2220). It came in 5 working days.

Default Best way to clean K&N Filter

I too have the K&N filter and it mention something about re-oil after you flush it with water. What type of oil are you suppose to use and how much or should you purchase the kit? Just curious, don't want to ruin the filter when I clean it or make it worst.

I bought the oil/clean kit off eBay. Wasn't very expensive ($10?) although the place I got it from charged about $7 for shipping.

Just curious, but is there a special oil you need to use on these filters? Anyone know what type specifically?

K&N sells what they call a recharge kit. This contains a spray on cleaning solution and a can of oil to apply once you have cleaned and let your filter dry.

I think they say every 30K or 50K mi. something like that, but I just did mine after about 20K mi. I'd guess. I bought the kit I used off eBay. I took out my entire airbox, cleaned it, and then cleaned the filter, re-oiled it lightly and re-installed everything. If I can do it, anyone can!

I now have a second cleaner/oil kit (long story) so if you want to buy one, PM me.

I am deciding on either the K&N drop in or the Cone K&N with Maf adapter. What performance gain do you think the COne will have over the drop in?

Thanks

When you say cone, do you mean the whole FIPK (intake kit)? If not, I'm not sure what you're thinking of getting.

What I mean is, if an aftermarket intake was installed (injen) and used a drop in filter, what gains would one expect? Instead of using the drop in and opting for the Cone, what would the gain be? thx
