I did mine too and so far I'm pretty lucky. No issues yet. Starts and drives like normal, not codes are thrown. Second sound comes in a bit after 3k rpm. Almost as it another voice is coming in to sing.

So correct me if I'm wrong ~

So far I see the difference between the boxes is the extra hole....and the blueness of the filter. And the thingy that is on the black OEM one but not on the metal one (what the heck is that anyway?) Is that all?

well my friends were watching me when I did the install. After I put the engine covers on and they asked me so now you can't even see it? I pointed them toward the passenger side and showed them side of the the silver pipe instead of the oem plastic one that is now showing

The lower airbox change is what gives you most of the sound... (you can get a similar result drilling a similar hole in the stock lower airbox).

The filter lets you not have to buy new disposable ones every 30k miles but not much else.

It's the intake tube that provides pretty much all of the ~5hp gain by giving a smoother intake path... just like the Joe Z intake does (which the F-sport tube is pretty much a copy of).

I see. The F sport is a smooth tube. But on the OEM one there was this thing that was on it that kind of stuck out a little. It was an additional little box or something that was connected to the black tube, which is not on the F sport. What is that thing and its purpose?

Ahhh found a pic. That square thing that juts off of it.

Is a snorkel? Or maybe the resonator box?

I managed to snag a used K&N air intake off Ebay for $90 (with filter). It was only 8 months old, and retails for $300. Just put it on this afternoon and love it already. I was afraid that I would hear a loud whistle at idle, but it really sounds the same. I hear the intake noise when I get on it, mostly from 3k rpm and up. Got on the interstate here in Raleigh and hit 90+ mph before I even got off the on-ramp! LOVE the sound, and can feel a difference in the performance. I had seen a lot of haters posting about the K&N actually causing a decrease in hp, but I aint buying it. Big difference........... And it is sexy to see the chrome pipe coming out of the engine panel, instead of the generic black plastic tube!

I'll bet you double or nothing on the cost of a dyno you gained single digit horsepower (almost certainly 5 or less), which is not enough to "feel"

A lot of folks confuse intake noise with power though.

I know what you're saying, but I am not a noob. I know the difference between sound and feel. I do hear it above 3k rpm, and I do feel it as well. If you are used to your car, and know it's power and response, you will be able to feel single digit hp increases..........

Here is a good explanation about intake resonator.

You really really won't.

I've owned dozens of cars, including cars making a lot more power than an IS350. (and a couple making less). In most cases doing my own mods, everything from a simply TB bypass to forced induction... A 2% change in hp, which is the most you got with an intake, possibly less, is not perceivable by a human being. It's barely enough to be outside the margin of error of a professionally calibrated dyno.

Sadly the only way to prove this to you would be we get some earplugs and try the K&N vs. stock intake on your car (ie you're in a closed room, the car goes away for 30-60 minutes and you've no idea if the stock was swapped or not, then with the earplugs in you drive it around for 5-10 minutes and tell me which intake you think it has.

We do say 5-10 iterations of this. I bet you don't do any better than someone would randomly guessing.

It's pretty much the same blind testing you use to prove to people that "monster cable" doesn't make their stereo sound better... but it takes a ton more time.

We'd have to be betting a decent amount of $ to be worth wasting a whole day proving something I already know to ya though.
