Default Rattle from the rear

I just bought 2011 F-Sport package with F-Sport exhaust and everytime I hit 2800 RPM I hear this rattle noise from the rear and it goes away when I go above or below 2800 RPM. I took it to one of the dealership and they said its impossible to fix it because they do not know where its coming from. I think its from the head rest but I am not sure. What should I do? Its driving me crazy...

I have rattling coming from the rear as well for my 07 is350. I think mine is coming from the speaker under the rear windshield. I am going to ask em to take a look tmr when I do my 60k maintenance and hopefully they can fix it..

But i find it hard to believe that you just bought a brand new car and they are responding to you like that..

You to dealer: "Well, I hope you can figure it out soon, because I'd hate to put too many miles on the loaner you're obligated to give me while you look for the source and fix it"

You might want to look at the rear vents/ashtray at the back end of the center console. Took me months to isolate this rear noise myself because the sound didn't seem to come that area, but sure enough if I pressed on it the noise went away while driving. I actually ended up removing my rear ashtray until I finally purchased some b-quiet material and lined under my rear seat and back side of the rear seat. The noise went away.

I have a similar rattle or creaking noise coming from the back seat area on my 2009 IS350. Its very noticeable driving over bumps. The dealer tried to fix it the first time but its still there. So back she goes to fix the noise (hopefully). The first time the dealer told me it was the rear seat belts so they replaced those but the noise remains. I'm guessing it could be the rear window itself or something underneath the rear dash. We'll see I hope.

Default '07 IS350 rear window creak/chatter when hot

I am have an intense rattle/creak from the rear window area that only happens when it is warm/sunny. It has been silent for the last 7 months (I live in Seattle - what can I say) but started up again this week. Unfortunately my full warranty expired on January 27th of this year and now I will have to pay the $111/hr troubleshooting rate. Hoping someone has some suggestions?

I had it at the Lexus dealer today and a tech did a road test with me. We didn't even have to leave the parking lot. It barely requires a crack in the asphalt to cause it to rattle. He said they just got done troubleshooting something similar and spent 4 days locating and fixing the issue. Turned out to be the foam seating the rear subwoofer rests in moved around and was in contact with the window somehow. Hence the "squeak" or "creaking" sound. He did say mine sounded different, and this doesn't explain the "only when its hot" thing.

Looking forward to some advice. Thanks!

I've taken my car to the dealer twice and they still can't figure it out! They keep saying they can't replicate the issue so they can't fix it. I was not expecting that from Lexus. Is there a way to look under the rear dash area to see if there's anything loose of making contact with anything else? Any help would be appreciated.

I had the rattle coming from the rear window area as well. Turns out that there were two guide pins that the robot uses to install the rear window at the factory. So after the installation of the window the pins are in there forever and after a while start to make rattling noise. This was told to me by my dealer (bob baker lexus in el cajon, CA). So to fix the problem they had to remove the back window and remove the pins and sure enough the freaking rattle is GONE. Its covered under warranty b/c the service rep said its a common issue with the IS. Mine is a 2009 IS350. So check with your stealer.

Thanks for that update IS350Fan! This sounds like the first reasonable explanation I heard. Beause mine only happens when its hot out (and car sits in the sun) like Allst4r, I'm not 100% this is the issue for me - at least enough to take it back in and ask them to fix it. Mine is an '07 and the full package warranty ran out in January unfortunately. Being Seattle the sun doesn't shine much, and my car is parked 3 foors underground during the work week, so it's not as easy to repro the issue.

allst4r, have you had yours looked at again? Since we have the same year car and the same source of the problem, if this fixes yours then I will at least we sure of the story to tell dealer, and can call and ask if they will cover this under the remaining warranty (which will be a tough sell I think, but worth a try).

Thanks for the update! and congratulations on ridding yourself of the rattle!

I second this. It's a brand new car, under full factory warranty - get it fixed for free. If the dealer refuses or says it's impossible, tell them you'll contact Lexus corporate or just tell them you'll be going to a different dealer from now on for all of your warranty and maintenance work.
