Default Axle back v Cat back

So i got an f-sport intake and megan axle back exhaust coming in, and was debating or not to get custom piping all the way back to the primary cats. I realize im driving a 250, and mass power gains aren't something i'm going to realize. But will i get a better deep/loud sound that is worth the cost of getting custom piping all the way back? Any thoughts?

The IS250 is not going to net much gains from midpipe modifications. Generally, axlebacks give you around 7-9 hp gain, midpipe around 1-3 hp gain. Just simply modifying the midpipes with aftermarket ones will not give you much gains.

If you want to make power, probably go with a custom single exhaust and getting rid of the secondary cats. Then you want to get the PPE headers with no primary cats. Last step is either a supercharger or tune your car if you want it to be NA setup.

OP is asking about sound. Not power.

Sound is a tough thing to really gauge without knowledge and understanding of acoustics. What I can tell you is that you might want to head over to youtube and look at what the sounds are with and without the midpipe. From what I've heard/seen is that the exhaust isn't much deeper, mostly just louder.

Invidia midpipe sound nice with the Megan axle back. But watch out for the Trooper in MA. that a ticket nodout. Reason why i do want an after market exhaust.

I got to ride someone with an F-Sport axle back to compare with my Joe Z catback, and there is definately a lot more cabin drone inside with the Joe Z. Both have a healthy growl, a bit louder with the Joe Z though. If your purpose is sound, I really don't think a midpipe would produce much of it since it is primarily piping. Removing the resonators though will probably give you quite a bit more sound, maybe too much actually.

Thanks for all the input. Def can't be removing cats in MA, so thats just out of the questions. And i'm always lookin out for the damn staties laobo, dont worry, lol. Seems like the only result if any would be a small HP gain and a bit louder noise. I'll prolly just end up sticking w/ the axle back and pulling the resonators

And i've done my youtube research. which is how i came upon the megan axle back. There arent many videos of it, but the ones i found blew the rest of the exhaust out of the water, just my opinion. Maybe i'll see if i can get some clips up when its installed
