Um...when you said
"Its nice to know that Suspension,Tires, handling capabilities, brakes ETC..have little to do with going top speed.. "

implying that the piece of knowledge [suspension, etc has littleto do with top speed] is something didn't know before.

I apologize if I misread your post. I understand that substandard English on the internetz is perfectly acceptable, but if you don't use proper English grammar and write complete sentences, you have to have some expectation that people aren't going to understand wtf you are saying.

I agree with RioDino,
at speeds >100mph other drivers would the most dangerous thing on the US roads. If you properly maintain your lexus and have high speed tires, your car will easily handle ~130-140mph speeds. Be ready to stop quickly thou.

But wouldn't it make more since that the limiter was put on to match the capabilities of the car? ... It just seems to me that the tires would not be the deciding factor. ..
No, usually it has little to do with capabilities of the car, but mostly due to marketing, liability issues.
And, yes, tires would be the first rear factor limiting the top speed (besides the engine power).

The greater ones power the greater ones responsibililty.

Currently the highest speed limit in the USA is what 70? 75? (maybe higher somewhere?)
Lets say the maximum limit is 80mph somewhere. How many would be please that their cars were limited to 80mph?

You get into freedom issues and responsibility issues in things like this. If you had a medical emergency and were rushing a loved one to the hospital would you be pleased with a top speed that equaled the speed limit? Not me.

Similar to gun ownership. The VAST majority of gun owners are highly responsible and the VAST majority of gun violence is caused by the drug laws that create massive illegal multi-billion dollar industries that have to guard their money and drugs.

Clearly people demand (myself included) to purchase things that if miss used can lead to injury and death. High speed driving is no exception. I NEVER race anyone on the street anymore (I did as a young driver) as that prompts the OTHER driver to place himself and others at risk. Since I have NO idea the capabilities of that driver or his vehicle it is irresponsible of me to encourage or spur that action.

Modern high end vehicles are engineered WAY past their usage envelope for many reasons with liability being most likely on top. A competent driver in a well maintained vehicle such as these can drive safetly at top speed on good road surfaces. HOWEVER... this situation RARELY presents and on public highways is OBVIOUSLY illegal (for mostly very good reasons).

Anyone choosing to drive high speeds assume ALL risk and consequence. Do not take this choice lightly. You can easily google and find the lives of many cut short or forever ruined by making poor decisions with respect to this topic.

Default This is embarrassing

The speed rating on O.E.M. Tires is almost always the main factor in the manufacturers top speed limiting. But common sense should be the major factor for how fast you actually drive your car.
A common upgrade to these cars would be Z-Rated tires. And once in a while i find a spot of open road long enough to run into the limiter on my car. As an adult, I understand the consequences of my actions. My car is more than safe for sustained high speed driving.
So Does anyone actually know how to disable the limiter?
If you dont know, than dont embarrass yourself with a speech about why your not comfortable speeding, or whatever nonsense has compelled most of these replies.
Someone actually said they “weren't comfortable giving out the details of disabling the limiter on this forum”? Like they would be opening themself up to all kinds of liability by posting instructions about upgrading a car, in a “Performance Upgrades Forum”!
GIVE ME A BREAK!
The internet is already jammed with posts containing stupid advice of all kinds, that doesn’t excuse people from being responsible for their actions. And certainly doesn't open the door to passing liability on to some one else because of something they commented about online.
So please, does anyone know how to remove the limiter? Not very often i actually hit the limit, So when i find a wide open spot, i can decide for myself how fast is safe considering all the factors.
Thanks
