I'm going to pick up a new starter in a week or so, but the problem is completely gone. I changed the battery in my key as it was getting weak, but it still clicked instead of starting a few times after that. Then Friday, it went away and has been starting fine ever since. A little wierd, but I'm still going to replace the starter for the piece of mind.

Hey Bobby, good idea cause when I picked up my car last week my mechanic and I sat down for a couple of hours and he explained how our cars work. He worked at Toyota for many years and worked on the GS's as well.

He did state that the click is definitely the starter and only the starter makes that sound when the solenoid starts to go bad; he stated the the starter was "pole-ing". From the movie I posted, you can hear 1 click but before I got the first starter in, my car died in March 2010 and all you could hear is multiple clicks [click-click-click-click-click] when I went to try to crank the engine.

I also replaced the battery in the key, checked out the starter relay, new car battery and checked the ignition switch. All proved to be a frugal attempt as none of those parts can cause what we now know to be a starter issue.

As of last night, the newly rebuilt starter is working fine, and sounds like the day I bought the car. That very specific sound that our cars make when cranking has returned!
