Default which exhaust for GS300 and SRT/ECU?

Just bought an SRT and would like opinions on best exhaust performance wise that doesn't drone or isn't much louder.

I've read a lot of threads and wonder why so many people start off with L- tuned and then go to HKS or Tanabe. Is it b/c the L-tuned is only axle back?

Borla, L-Tuned, RMM, and HKS, almost in that order are quietest to loudest with not much drone. Check the classified section, someone probably has one for sale.

thanks....would all of these be considered comparable in terms of performance when coupled with an SRT?

You're looking at 2, maybe 3 hp gain with any add on muffler.

Thanks....I eventually plan to add headers after exhaust(when funds are there). Most likely S&S or Mazzuri.

Headers for the GS are pretty tough to find. mex_lex has some for sale in the 2nd Gen sale section

I have heard good things about the OBX headers found on ebay. Also comes with mid pipe. If you are looking for some power gains, you need to make sure to get a full exhaust not not just an axle. Keep in mind that this will cause issues with emissions.

Thanks....so how much additional performance does one gain by going full length exhaust versus axle back? Would I lose any more low end torque?

Would a header be a better mod to do at this point if performance is my main goal?

Axle back are just mufflers. There have been tests that prove that they do nothing expect give you a deep tone and reduce low end torque a bit. The full piping allows for larger piping and reduced restriction.

Infamous 1 is correct, but be prepared for the amount of noise the headers will make.

Here is mine with a custom set-up. Its all Magnaflow 2 mufflers 2 resonators and 2 tips.

It's very smooth and it was only about 500 bucks and runs from my converter up by the header back.

john,while your talking bout headers.
join MYIS.COM also and see if you can find a mazurri. i think they are a tad shorter if you get them for a IS but can be modified to work on the gs

this guy used to make/own mazzuri but they are now closed (his name is daniel and he's still active on the boards over there)
http://my.is/forums/members/25102.html

or try obx they make some or im CARBON (my buddy tony) he modified some is300 toyomoto to fit his gs300

I've heard the Tanabe Medallion and the Borla....like them both. Will the Tanabe provide any more hp since it's a catback versus the Borla?

Have read hundreds of posts but not many about anyone changing out cat converters to higher flow versions? Would this make a noticeable performance improvement when coupled with a cat back system like Tanabe?
