Looking for help on this topic for a 2000 ES300 V6. I've read through this entire thread and I'm thinking it's one of the OCV filters or OCV itself. Car started running terribly rough on my wife at around 45 mph after about 20 mins of driving, lots of shaking etc. I've replaced coils before and am familir with the misfire symtoms but this seemed to be something more intense. When I started it cold (Chicago in December) it was running fine.

Codes are multiple misfires, P0300, 302, 304, 306 but also received a:
P1354-bank2 (VVT Sys Malf)
P1150-bank2 (air/fuel ratio sensor range/perf malf)
P1351-bank2 (VVTsensor range/perf problem).

I bought this car 5 years ago with 90k and it might not have been maintained so well, there is more engine sludge thank I'm used to seeing so the filter and/or OCV makes sense. I found the OCV's on the top drivers side of the engine but can't find the filters. My cheapo haynes manual says there is one in each cylinder head. So that leaves me with these questions;

What does bank 2 signify? Is bank 2 the front or rear OCV?

Is there really a separate filter for each cylinder and do I need to pull the valve covers to get to them?

Thank you!!!

Indeed it does...calls for 2 of them. Makes sense since there are 2 VVTi cams on a V8

I was able to locate mine through a thread on highlanders with the same 3.0L engine. I'll take a picture and post later. Bank 2 is really easy to get to, this is the one I changed and it worked like magic, car ran perfect. Took about 10 minutes. However, Bank 1 is a little trickier. It's easy to see but hard to get to and requires removing some hoses and linkages.

^ Umm...straight 6 vs. V6, so not the same motor. Plus we only have one bank.

They're not too hard to do. Just take your time, and don't force things. Things don't break unless they're forced.

The I6 has 2 banks, that's why it got 2 headers. Just saying.

Im deleting the original contents of this post so as not to confuse others who may visit the site - concerning 1 or 2 banks.

I think some of the confusion in this thread is stemming from ES owners using it because a similar thread probably doesnt exist in the ES forums. So ES owners have V6's which are a completely different animal all together. Glad to help ES owners here, but please lets keep the focus in this thread on GS models.

Probably be really nice if the ES owners would create a thread in the ES Forum and copy-paste some of this stuff so ES owners can find this repair easier. Just an idea.

Im glad this thread has helped out a lot of people. Too bad dealers arent as helpful.

is that pretty much it and based on my picture where are the bolts that need to be undone?
