I was just wondering if anyone has bought and dynoed the Tanabe cat-back exhaust ? cause i called tanabe-usa today and talked to a tech there and he said they got an 8 rwhp gain with their catback touring exhaust. so i asked him what was the tq gain and he replied he didnt have that info at the moment ! but $600 for 8 wrhp doesnt seem like a bargain at all at $75 for 1 hp !
however the 8hp gain is with the exhaust by itself. If you're putting just an exhaust on, you're not looking for big power, you're looking for sound.
now don't forget the fundamental principle of give and take. If you're taking more air out with the exhaust, then giving more air in with an intake, high flow cats, turbo/headers etc., you would see a big difference between power/torque with stock exhaust and with the tanabe.
IMO, best sounding and best built exhaust for the GS and worth every penny, if you've got the pennies that is.
all good mods work in pairs, IE intake/exhaust, LSD and Torque Converter etc. etc.
...uhhh, how much do you think any exhaust will make on any car??? Exhaust itself doesn't make a lot of power. It is one of those mods that are recommended to either A) squeeze a little more power out of your car and/or B) if you are doing heavier mods in the future such as turbo.
Of course there are better gains to be had with other mods for less $$$ nevertheless an aftermarket exhaust is a rather necessary item if performance is your thing regardless if it make 3whp or 15whp...
If you're buying an exhaust to gain a lot of hp then you're wasting your money. I think most (at least some that have been on CL for a while) know that you're not going to see any significant hp increase just from an exhaust. Most people buy an exhaust because they like the way it sounds.

actually i wasnt looking for a miracle. but id rather spend less than that i guess and just buy an srt intake system and gain more hp/tq than the tanabe exhaust ! and yes, i got the pennies allday !

i agree i got the srt intake first no exhaust yet im happy
I would get the intake first then squeeze the hp out of the car if you still need more im happy its fun and sounds great
you can have a custom exhaust made for ~ 800 or less. just take out the mid pipe and do the whole set up! Save the $$ of these expensive "axle" back aftermarket exhausts and get the sound and performance you want for less money. if you want sound only throw on some borla or maganflow mufflers and call it a day.
