But keep in mind if you are planning on boosting the A650 is not what I would call a stellar choice. The 650 wont hold much past 400-450rwhp.

I am actuall considering pulling the 650 from my GS and putting in a A340 from boostlogic.
I am pretty sure that the V8 and the I6 require different bell housings? From what you and Gsteg said they are the same. I am sure I am confused.

They're the same transmission, but the bell housing is different. I guess you can say the core is identical. One reason why the torque converters are not interchangeable. If it was, I'd be using the GS300 convertor for the higher stall speed

Default Sorry for the late reply, I think I paid $800 for both. I will

check my bill and verify it. However, if you do your VB forget about that smooth lexus shift. It can get annoying at times especially when you are just cruising. (Correction PFS charges $895 for VB and Sprag.)

actually my boss has a supra with the factory 5-speed, he sent it out and got the clutch packs and sprag gears replacerd by a local tranny guy, but liek you said teh trans never shifted right, he is all about the car driving like stock, so he has a way of modifying the valve body to help with the quicker shifts and still have a nice shift when your not flooring it..he charges $450 for the upgrade and he has to have the car here to drive it and adjust accordingly..
iirc he is making rigth around 650-700whp on a factory tranny that was rebuilt

Default My standalone also controls my tranny shift points. I am sure I can

adjust my line pressure to minimize the hard shifts. However, I am use to it so it's not much of a problem for me now. But to all that are thinking about doing the VB upgrade, the car shifts so hard that your passengers will notice. If you are driving clients, nagging wife or parents this is not a mod for you.

What transmission comes with a VVTi 2JZ-GTE swap from over the pond? The A340E or the A650E? Thanks

Hi everyone!
i'm from russia and sorry about my bad english))
help me plz)
Any transmission that was ever offered on any 2JZ is interchangeable.
And you're just gona swap that block into your car while keeping the stock head and trans. If so, yes it will work.
so...
If I wish to swap 2jz-gte on my gs300(A650E), is it necessary to re-programming my ECU, or re-programming ECU 2jz-gte, that it worked with my A650E?!After all on aristo(2jz-gte) did't stand A650E!
and if i'll put in my A650E, torque converters from aristo(A340E), whether will it work correctly?
what should i do, that my A650E worked with 2JZ-GTE(300hp-it is enough for me)?
sorry about a lot of question) it is my first experience)

Sorry to drudge up an old thread....

Doing the math the A650 has a 3.357 first and a 0.753 OD, which translates to a 2.52 if OD is engaged in first (to make a "second" gear). So I don't think this is the case. none of the ratios line up showing OD is engaged in any gear save 4th to make 5th.

The new 8 speed is like that to a degree.

It has a 4.596, 2.724, 1.864, 1.464, 1.231 and 1:1 ratio, then adds in 2 OD's, 0.824 and 0.685.

Doing the math there shows 1st and 2nd are "natural" ratios, but 3rd is 2nd with 2nd OD kicked in, and 5th is 4th with 2nd OD kicked in. They don't seem to be using the first OD ratio at all for a gear multiplier.

The 6 speed in the 3rd Gen GS might be doing it, but the math is off a bit, and usually it is either spot on or off.

One company is taking the GM 4L80E and making it a 6 speed by engaging OD in the other gears. It is already a close ratio trans, so the gains aren't that great, probably not worth the $.... Unless you give it a short first gearset (they sorta do), but it only has a 2.74 first from the THM200/THM2004R.

The A650E is a bit of an oddball. I think this is correct but I might be wrong. It has 3 gears and 1 overdrive. The way it works, I can see why it would be a beeotch to bulletproff it.
Drives like this:
1st gear= 1st gear
2nd gear= 1st gear + overdrive
3rd gear= 2nd gear
4th gear= 3rd gear
5th gear= 3rd gear + overdrive
