Dumb question...but if there is a learning curve, then how does the car respond while it's learning? Is the ride rough? Does it shift at awkward times or jerk while accelerating? I have never reset mine on my own and hence do not know.

Yesterday I pulled the fuse for a around an hour.
And this morning i did not recognize the car...
GREAT IMPROVEMENT!!!!
Before the car was slugish leaving from a traffic light,you had to give him a little gas and was a small delay before the car moved,now the car respond with a little jump to the little gas .Gears seems to moving up and down more easily.Car feels lite and nimble .
Only minor inconviniences: lost clock time and steering wheel telescoping adjustment, i did not move the seat( most likely those setting were lost ) so i just reset them with the stering wheel adjusted .
I don't use radio so i can tell if those setting were lost ( most likely)

You will experience some akward shifts for a while. My car will shift quickly into a low gear almost like its in "snow mode" but then it jumps back and starts pulling again. This is only when the car is in the learning curve and it levels out after a while.

agreed with the ECU reset... had my Viper alarm installed and i guess he had to take off the battery terminal and took it out for a drive after the install... shifting was nice and throttle was more responsive... i guess i'll be doing this on a regular basis!
I've had terrible hesitation problems for the past 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes I would step on the gas pedal, and the car lurges forward after like 2 or 3 full seconds!
Resetted my ECU last week, problem is gone!

Members I know this thread dates back several years ago but I wanted to share my results. I removed the 20amp yellow ECU B1 fuse and left it out for an hour. Placed it back in and drove off feeling a definite change in the car. I felt a kick when I stepped on the gas after I was stopped at a light. Mind you it's not like I slammed my foot a gas. So thumbs up on that little trick.

Yeah...good DIY but it doesn't last that long. The ECU eventually goes back to "normal" mode this is why you will hear CL members constantly re-setting their ECU sometimes as much as once per week! It's good to do if you know you are going to have to race someone that day.

ECU and a new GS300 Driver
I bought my 04 GS from a friend with only 25K miles on it. We have counter opposite driving habits. He drove to his office every day no more than 10 miles. I am in my car every day and can put on upto 50K per year. Sounds like this would be the right improvement for me. I am not machincal at all but would like to try this. I know that I can handle the fuse removal. Could I mess-up the nav or anything else? Thanks.

I don't, the ecu doesn't learn anymore. I'm running a Map ECU with a 74mm turbo. I had tried all the tricks, installed a resistor to trick the ecu in cold start mode, hooked up a black box to reset the ecu on every ignition shut off. Then I read on the IS300 forums that a guy spoke to an engineer at Lexus and asked about ways to get around the learning issue, the engineer replied, thats easy... just unplug all 4 02 sensors and it will keep the car from learning, the ecu will only run in cold start mode. It works for me! And I have my temp gauge back.
