Electric supercharger..do they work?? (MERGED THREADS)
http://www.turbomagazine.com/tech/04..._supercharger/
This is the only electric blower that looks like it can work.
But, can the maf react quick enough to add fuel after a burst of air being forced into the engine?
So now you get tuned for that extra air, right? But what about when the electric charger is not being powered? Now you will have too much fuel and not enough air.
There is ways to make it work, but i just don't think it's as easy as ebay claims.
Some car makers are talking about, maybe some have already done it; electric motor turbo aid. They are claiming this will help reduce turbo lag. So we just might see some electric blowers in the future as an OEM product on assembly lines. But then again who knows, by then all vehicles will be hydrogen powered. Since electric cars never realy made a big hit in the US

I enjoy reading about this.
and normally I would be the first to goad someone into purchasing one for fun. But in reality this forum see's alot of people, and I would feel bad if I started reading testimonials about the HP gains an ebay bought electric supercharger nets. (actually no, I would probably find it funny as hell. Then copy and paste it to other forums so that others may also enjoy)
So let me be the first to tell anyone considering buying one for the 15 or so HP that is promised.
I have a chrome exhaust tip that will lower your backpressure and give you an additional 25hp to the wheels....... any takers?
Here is the down and dirty folks.
The electric superchargers dont work, they may show some improvement at one small spot on a dyno at a low RPM / load range, but overall will cost you HP. The obstruction they create will block incoming air when you are at full throttle in the higher RPM ranges.(I.E. when the air requirements of the engine exceed the flow ability of the ESC)
I would also like to see a datalog showing 1psi of boost at WOT. Its easy to have boost when the throttlebody is closed.
I would be willing to bet dimes on dollars that anyone who states they picked up HP from one of these also felt a difference when they changed out exhaust tips.

Hmmm...still makes me not so sure. There are like 10 videos on there that are IDENTICAL to one another and yet they are from different users. It seems like who ever invented/try to sell them is putting up videos to prove their performance. However, the videos mentioned above show that it is hitting up to 7 PSI of boost on some Acura/Honda..?? I don't believe this...maybe the boost gauge was rigged or something. I would need to see MANY of these electric superchargers on different vehicles on the dyno, before and afters. Just my 2 cents...
And these are the people who invented and sell them...
