injen intake and correlation with dash lights
am getting this for my 98 gs300 from a fellow member.
i researched it on CL and noted that most complained that it set off their dash lights(VSC, CEL , check engine etc).
is it because they did not reset their ECU upon installing their intake or is this a definitie occurance bound to happen upon installing an injen intake.
i don't want to get this and "hope" it doesn't set off the lights. i don't want any trial by error mod.
so please advise on this injen intake. i would rather stick with stock than fight the dashlight set-off.
thanks

It's because there is no fuel compensation for the increased airflow. Whats the point of having a high flow intake with a restrictive filter on it? Point being, if you are going to do an intake YOU HAVE TO HAVE FUEL COMPENSATION!!!!
Actually the biggest problem is the piping diameter mismatch. It's what causes most of the CEL's on aftermarket intakes on cars with a MAF type air metering system. The stock intake pipe is 2.25" or 2.5" diameter. Most of the aftermarket intakes have a 3" piping. Bigger piping = less air velocity for the same amount of air flowed. Thus, the MAF metering system tuned for the stock piping diameter will register less air flowing thru the intake pipe while in reality there is more. You need an SAFC or some type of MAF signal modifier to correct for the difference in airflow.
