police must have a reasonable cause to search your property, incl your car. their way to this: suspicious suspect incl's mod' car (lowered, stereo, etc), occupant's appearance and demeanor, driver's record when pulled up on their in car computers, etc. reason why i drive like an old lady

Just get a K&N intake, peel off the sticker and slap in on your SRT intake . Most likely very illegal, but you're breaking the law anyway by putting on the SRT in the first place.

As for cops popping hoods in Cali, it certainly almost always happens when they see something very obvious. Like a shiny big *** front mount intercooler sitting behind the front bumper. Big wheels/brakes, big/loud exhaust, etc. Pretty much anything indicating the car has modification done to it for increased speed/performance. The supra guys over there have been hit hard. Some of them have switched back to a bumper without a big gaping hole in front and I've heard of some that have painted the intercooler flat black to make it less visible.

Srt intake is not legal in Ca (I think that was already determined ) There are no plans for it to be made legal either. On the other hand, people have passed smog with the Srt intake installed. I'm not from Cali so I can't comment on the visual, but as far as the actual amount of "exhaust pollution output"(for lack of a better term) the Srt HAS passed the Ca smog inspection.

that use to be the case, but they got smart on what to actually look for. i got friends with bone stock looking hondas, but when you pop the hood there is a jdm motor in it. that's the reason why cops will pop hoods randomly. i am not saying that it happends all the time, but it can happend. get srt, bet you will not get messed with untill 9/10 gs out there are turbo, racing and causing collisions.

anyone have a picture of a srt on a gs4 or gs430?

I can pass emissions on my Integra with headers, intake, high flow cat, and exhaust... as i worked as a smog mechanic and fam owns a shop... as long as you can pass tail pipe emissions such as CO2 and NOx, you can find a lot of places that will pass you even though you have mods...

I'll agree as I'm sure the SRT intake will pass the emissions part with no problem. The problem is, I don't think the company wants to pay the expenses or royalties of having it CARB and 50 state legal so the company can increase their cost savings. They'll label it as "off-road or track" use only even though they know 99% of their customers will install on their product on a "non-track" car. The cost actually then passes on to us the consumers through state ref tickets etc. I would rather purchase a K&N because they are established and have went through the trouble of making the use of their product "worry-free" for their customers. I know some people may say the SRT provides a bit more power than the K&N and it's been dyno proven, etc. But seriously, who is going to feel a 5rwhp difference. I know most people purchase air intakes for the "sound" anyways. The bottom line is..... if you have to worry about making threads like this, then you're better off with a K&N.

As a previous owner of the SRT and K&N intake, I was 10x happier with the K&N. I lost a bit of low end on the SRT compared to the K&N. Top end isn't that much different. Not worth the extra $250 for more noise and a bit more power. If I had to do it again, I would get the K&N and an SAFC-II. That way, they work together and your safc can fine tune your car altogether (beneficial if u have more mods on your car).

Plus I'm in cali so that CARB stick comes in handy. I was always paranoid driving around with the SRT. With the K&N, my car was all legal

Has anyone passed smog with a custom intake and random CARB sticker? I just payed the smog station a visit with my custom CAI and guy asked for a sticker? He says they now run the CARB sticker numbers through the system and check...any input?

I got a question that kinda touchs on this subject. Since its legal to run the K&N intake is it legal to run a SAFC or like a e-manage in CA?

No, but if they don't see it, then you should have no problem. That is unless your car isn't tuned right and your car is running like crap.

FYI, just incase you never got the intake and for other members to know. There are no CAI made by K&N for a GS300. There are the stock replacement filters though and will not pop cels.

AEM and K&N make an intake for the IS300 and both are CARB legal. So for the 01-05 GS300 Cali guys, could you get away with it if you used a IS300 intake on your GS? How does it fit, anyone ever tried that?
