on my '99 gs4, 36,000 mi.; lately on startup there is a hesitation, as if the automatic choke is locked up as on older carburetted cars. no power, engine runs but will not rev. lasts no more than 40/50 feet then runs fine. Happens both cold and warm ( as in a 1/2 hour stop). Happens 2 out of three times. Any Ideas/advice?
The GS throttle control is not mechanical but drive by wire. The ECU detects the padel position, sends signal to a solenoid to open up the butterfly according to the padel position. The hesitation is caused by the ECU.
Had scheduled appt. at dealer for tommorrow and today ck. engine and trac. control off lites came on. Engine seemed to be missing. Tried disconecting battery for three minutes. All lites back to normal, no hesitaton and smooth running.
Is there an explanation for this, or is it just an idiosyncracy?
Took car in today for diagnosis, told them of cure (battery disconect)
Was told that unfortunatly that also removes diagnostic memory so no way dealer can find out what the problem was. They checked the car over found nothing they could duplicate or try to fix.
Dealer suggestion, if it happens again, call us, we'll flat tow it in N.C. and flat tow it back N.C. Price is right, hope it doesn't happen again.
