Default Confused on which intake to buy?!?

Hello guys. I am new to this forum and have been doing a ton of reading on the air intakes out for my new IS 350. So far, I have noticed three that are out there. There is the Joe Z intake, the LMS Intake and the Fujita F5. Im curious on which one is better out of these three b/c they all are different prices? Which one will give me the best performance and sound the best (more deep, not ricey)? Thanks

use the search function and you should be able to find some lengthy debates over which intake is better. There are many solid points made to support each set up...

I have the LMS in mine and I love it. The tone of it is not rice at all and really let's you hear the power of this engine. IMHO, it felt like it made the car a little quicker but I haven't done a dyno run on it or anything.

there isn't an intake available yet that has any significant gains.

a smart man waits.

If not gains in horsepower, how about sound? Also, did some people get better gas efficiency with it?

Any thoughts on these?

the LMS has been mentioned my numerous owners to have a great throaty sound i believe starting at 2.5-3k rpms. though most dynos have shown very slight gains to losses in some tests.

the Joe-Z intake pipe has been rumored to have a little big more raspy of a sound at either 4 or 5k when used with a blitz/hks filter (more on blitz i believe).

the fujita, well i just don't think its a worthwhile intake at all.

as far as gas mileage goes i dont think any tests have been done to confirm this. i would guess the joe-z might increase fuel economy a slight bit, but nothing incredible. best way to conserve is to lay off the pedal!

the ARC box will probably have the most gains for an intake but at 400-500 bucks not sure if it is worth it to some consumers.

if a true CAI is ever developed for this car, or possible a complete replacement for the stock system including the snorkel(sp), said system will probably give the best performance gains.

all in all, pipe replacement ala joe-z, and filter replacement ala blitz is probably the best bet for everyone currently...performance wise. if anyone else releases a replacement air box similar to arc but utilizes the snorkel...i think we'll be money.

look at the s2000's...their TOL intakes are full carbon fiber molds that start at the snorel have a section for the filter and lead right into the TB.

After digging into my engine over the weekend, I'm fully convinced (at least with the current products on the market) that the JoeZ is the best intake upgrade, at least as far as air temperature and air flow is concerned. Our 2IS's come with a Ram-air setup in stock form, and the only product that draws cooler air from OUTSIDE the engine bay is the stock setup. the JoeZ takes advantage of this and improves it by reducing air turbulence created by the ribs in the stock intake tube leading to the throttle body. The others may be prettier, but in the end they are drawing hotter air from inside the engine bay, heat shield or not. One thing I did notice was the "snaking" path of the air tube from the front intake near the grill to the air filter box. Perhaps a replacement piece could be fabricated to straighten out the path of air. If/when the ARC piece comes on the market, we'll have to reevaluate things a bit as this product replaces the stock snorkel with what looks like a carbon fiber piece. If it is real carbon fiber, you can bet it'll be pricey, but it sure looks GREAT. By the way, I'd kill for a JoeZ-type tube made out of carbon fiber In the next couple of months K&N will be producing a Typhoon-series intake, but if history is any guide, it will be their typical open air/heat shield design. We just have to hurry up and wait...

First time I've seen that, but that was the dumbest show I've ever seen. It was informative on the product, but I was doing this the entire time....

Other than the labeling on the intake pipe, the LMS and Fujita intakes are identical.

none of the current intakes will give any noticeable gains, in fact you may lose some power. pony up the money if you're looking for a different sound

The IS does NOT have a Ram-air setup, A true ram-air setup has a direct path from an opening in the hood thru the filter and into the intake manifold via the throttle body. The IS has an inlet in the front probably because that is where the coldest (relative terms here) air is.

The video is hilarious. If you look at the three track runs of the stock vs the Fujita ram intake kit, the stock setup times are faster!
