The JOEZ pipe has a 3” ID (internal diameter) – The OEM pipe is slightly larger on the ends… This is so it can fit over the throttle body and the air box ends. JOEZ is going to get us an exact measurement of the air box outlet ID. He is sure it will be the same size on the TB… It should ALL be 3” ID.

Basically the air will eventually have to be forced into the 3" ID of the TB, so the 3" tubing is perfect in size to match the TB and airbox. The stock pipe looks bigger because it has thicker rubber walls..

**EDIT** Just got word from JOEZ

Joe said that the stock air box ID measures just under 3" an so does his intake... But when you measue the air box outlet from edge to edge... It is 3" inches...This is same result on his intake pipe... So we can say that both the Intake air box outlet is 3" inches and so is the intake pipe from edge to edge. But when you take an ID measurment it is slightly smaller of course...

This all makes sense.. Because the 3" sleeves he uses must have a 3" ID in order to fit over the 3" air box outlet, 3" piping and 3" TB...

It would be easiest to say that everything is 3" inches. "

$109 for a polished pipe, and $119 for black or gunmetal anodized.

It's not just a piece of bent tubing. As you can see there are welds and it has been anodized for a great durable finish and comes with various color sleeves. The more I drive around with the intake the more I like it. Just the right amount of sound one would expect from a 306hp engine, feels like it has more throttle response and more pulling power as well.

Speaking of pricey, have you looked at the "pieces of bent tubing with an air filter bolted on them going for over $225 of which aren't netting any performace gain on the dyno and nothing proven with their performance in the 1/4mile!? In comparison this product is a real bargain and will most likely be the standard intake upgrade for most of us IS owners along with a drop in filter. Just a prediction.

I can't imagine this thing adding much, (if any) hp. I'm willing to bet that the gains will be so marginal as to be within the margin of error for the dyno. Other than looking cooler than the stock pipe, I doubt it will do much else.

Even if/when a well designed intake does become available, it will not do much with the stock exhaust setup. What goes in must come out, and with the restrictive stock exhaust, any additional flow an aftermarket intake is capable of will go widely unused.

That sounds good! I would hate to have dyno'd the product before the prototype final dyno charts are posted.

I pre-ordered one from him before they were available in the MY.IS Store. As for when the black couplings will be available I have no idea.

Black couplings are now available, but they don't list the gunmetal, only polished and black.

The JoeZ sounds like it is a quality product, but one conern I had was what the impact will be to the long term reliability of the engine. The stock pipe is more flexible and can accomodate for engine movement. The question is, will 100,000 miles worth of engine movement likely cause an issue using a rigid pipe? What I am referring too is that the Throttle Body side will move with the engine (during shifts) and the intake box side will remain stationary. Caymandive, do you know if this was something that was considered during development and confirmed?

Yes, I thought about that myself actually and the answer is simple. The intake pipe basically floats in the 2 intake sleeves, so it has flexibility just like the stock pipe. The intake sleeves are both 3"x3" and the JOEZ pipe sits or floats right in the middle of them so it never comes in contact with either end. Hope this helps.

I'd actually say the price is marked up pretty good, just as with most other aftermarket products (though not as bad as some other brands). I've had custom 2in and 3in piping bent/welded before, for exhaust and intercooler setups, and the cost usually came in below $100, including couplers for the latter.
