Welcome to ClubLexus! Three places to start:

1) use the advanced search feature here on ClubLexus and other forums like my.is for keywords like ' quiet exhaust'

2) Take a listen to the I6 exhaust video here http://www.lexusgonewild.com/videos.shtml

3) Go to a local meet and hook up with other IS folks to listen in person! Check the southeast forums here for meets in your area in FL.

i agree.. .Borla Exhausts are freakin AWESOME... i tried almost EVERYTHING ELSE & finally found the best combo of Tone & Volume with My Borla... .plus ALL stainless steel & a ridiculous warranty

PLUS unless you are dying for one of these... NO big 'fart can' exh tip that screams MODDED EXHAUST!!!!!! to any cop who sees / hears yo uroll by & who has a hard-on for tricked out Modded Import cars..

so not only are they solid, & All stainless, not just the canister like MANY systems out there .... also well designed & really quiet as long as you have at least ONE Cat. in the exh system...

but they are "stealthy & the rolled oval slant cut tip is a VERY classy looking tip for Any Exhaust.....

I am actually thinking of going to a dual borla setup soon for ****s & giggles.. and Show...

I have run Borla on my last two cars. Borla is quite but will come alive above 4k RPM. I disagree about needing one cat. I ran turboeast catless headers with mine for a long time and it still sounded very calm. Borla as far as I know is known for the best power gains as well.

I am happy with mine without any cats.. . BUT.. it is a LOUD MO FO for sure above 4k.... & it could be MUCH quieter AND less conspicuous with the OEM Y pipe cat & not affect power too much at all....

if i wanted a more stealthy ride, & I believe that is what this guy is looking for ... . at least the ONE cat in the OEM y pipe Should he go with a header and eliminate the two main cats......will make a WORLD of difference to the exh volume & noticeability....if he left in the Stock header & went with an aftermartket Y pipe he would also have a really nice deep & pretty doggone quiet exh system under 4k.. it would open up nicely above that but NOTHING like the death roar i get when i am running past 4k....

i run no cats now with Stainless header, Stainless carson- Y & Stainless Borla Cat. back & my car is the loudest thing LMW has ever dynoed BY FAR ....

if i want to never go past half throttle & 4k it is really damn quiet... it is actually kind of surprising how loud it can get when it can also really sound pretty doggone quiet 80-% of the rest of the time...

the attention you get is all in how heavy yer right foot is when running open ( no cats, headers & full system upgrade) exhaust

good luck bro

wow...so it seems a good steup would be with the borla and one cat...its not that a i want to be stock quiet but i dont want it sounding like some ricer...i just want a deep quiet tone until i get on it...

But no header huh?...i hear thats where you can really pick up some power...

headers can pull power but often they also move the power band & unless you know exactly what you want you could end up with a header that adds 10 HP but only from 4500 to 6k rpm & it will cost you that amount of HP down low where you really need it daily when driving around towm.. .MOST all the headers used commonly, add power in the higher RPMS only, & all are illegal, you'll need an O2 simulator to avoid Check engine lights. your exhaust will STINK!! to high heaven.( that alone can be a "giveaway" ) & the noise for most is excessive esp if you use an aftermarket exhaust...

If you run one of the usual suspects headers available.....& run the car HARD at Hi speed alot you might actually use some of the power the header provides....personally i would go with the OBX/ TBKO short runner design Vs the Toyomoto, HP, XERD, Alphawerks, etc long runner designs.... this OBX header design provides more power lower in the rpm range & not as much at 6200rpm..( also this header produces abotu 2-4 less ultimate HP than the other long runner designs do... a negligible difference really!) ... Personally I hardly ever run the car hard at 6200 RPM...so I prefer my power to be lower in the range & accessible & useable daily..so i went with the short runner headers after testing 2 of the other ones 1st....it really makes a difference...

so if you ran a header & if you used the stock Y pipe/cat Plus a borla this will sound agressive & beefy at half throttle & thru the range.. .but not roar like a beast unleashed.... it wil lbe pretty loud tho when yo ufloor the gas...

if you kept the stock header & went with a Y pipe of almost any design & then The Borla.. .you will have a great sounding exhaust, more power.. almost full legalit,,, & really good low end torque & aggressive sounding exhaust note...( NOT ricey!) but not a roaring monster exhaust as well.

if you are looking at Y pipes let me know i have a few available... Good luck...
