Standalone ECU questions

Ok, let me clear something up. Standalone ECU is NOT easy in any sense of the word. Your stock ECU controls a myriad of other things than just the "engine and the tranny". Normal and "usually taken for granted" things such as idle control, cruise control, climate control, ignition and even simple things like in-cabin filtration control system are ALL controlled by the same ECU. When you swap out your stock ECU, you have to RETUNE all these things and probably about 1000 other more things that I can't even begin to name. Something that you will usually take for granted when you get your car from the factory.
So, again, please do some research and get some knowledgable opinion from people who have actually done the swap. I am at the level of engine mod right now that either I go single turbo or leave it as it is at BPU+++ level and even if I go single turbo, I will still try to retain my stock ECU and try to add on a piggyback unit like Titan's MAP-ECU or Greddy E-Manage (dunno how this will work with Aristo's vvti yet) because simply I don't want to mess with the basic functions of my car from factory.
You should go to supraforums.com and ask for opinions there instead of here. I think there are less than a handful of people here who have done an ECU swap (me included, but I only added a microtech fuel ECU piggyback unit) on a GS/Aristo and even then our knowledge on the matter is VERY limited. Good luck.

in case you were talking to me.So, when you said you "have been there, done that", what is it exactly that you did?

This is just coming from a guy who has installed many single turbos into various cars, many stand-alone ECUs, as well as piggyback units on a few of my own cars both here and in the US. Don't take it the wrong way.

you're just foooling the main ECU into thinking that its the one running things so all your luxuries and subsystems will work just like stock, and the ECU won't freakout.
the standalone ECU is piggybacked onto the system to only take care of fuel & ignition maps...
maybe not the most "efficient" way of doing things...
though i would think simplicity would be a factor also.
