Update on my blower at Vortech
Well many of you guys have been following my continuing saga with my Blower via PM, so here is the latest update. After several weeks Vortech looked at the SC and they say that the belt was too tight and that this caused the bearings to go bad which caused the marbling sound I was hearing. This doesnt explain what caused the blower to leak oil, first externally then internally. The blower is less than a year old and it was only tightened enough to try and counteract the belt slippage that I was expereinceing.
To add insult to injury there 3 year warranty is totally worthless, as soon as you put a different pulley on the unit it voids the warranty. Even if you are replaceing it with a Vortech pulley, even if you purchase it from RMM with one of their smaller pulleys installed. So I am guessing that the 3.12 pulley that many of us bought the rmm kit with voids the warranty as well. Supposedly they put some sort of paint on the pulley bolt as an indicator of tampering. I originally got mine with the 3.12 pulley and I dont remember any paint on the bolt so I guess that this voided the warranty right out of the box.
I dont have the total cost of the rebuld but I am told that it will probably be about 425.00, so there goes by VB upgrade that I definitley needed.
Let me close by saying I am so stinking irritated that words cannot explain, (well not words that I feel comfortable saying any how). The car has been down for 4-6 weeks and now I find that what I thought was going to be a minimal cost is going to really put a dent in my pocket and for stupid reasons. I mean come on the first thing anyone does when they buy a blower is to change the pulley.
Let me officially say that Vortech sucks!!!!!!
The frustration and humiliation is never ending, now with that said, would I do it again, yes in a heartbeat, there is no comparable feeling to driving around with close to 500HP on tap. Well maybe 600hp and I aims to find out
Arrrrrrrgggggggg

Well heres the latest. I have my blower back in the car the cogged pulley setup looks sick., I will try to attach a photo the belt isnt on in this photo. If anyon is interested in my old standard ribbed pulleys drop me an email. I have a 2.87 and a 2.65. This setup makes 10 pounds of boost at 5K rpm and I think it was 5 pounds at somewhere between 2500 and 3K, so the power comes on a lot sooner now which is real nice. I'm going to talk to my guy next week about stepping it up a notch in terms of boost.
As you can see it is actually 3 new cogged pulleys. the lower one on the powersteering pump is slick half is ribbed for the regular belt and the other half is cogged for the blower.
