i put the 17" wheels on last night i couldn't stand the blizzaks anymore ( they're great in the snow but not on dry or wet roads) anyway got up to 85 today and it was at 3300 rpm. will double check tomorrow and try to get the 95 reading. traffic here is the pits and going to or from work it's rare i can get any speed plus it has been raining everyday till yesterday, supossed to start heavy again tomorrow but if i can find a place without a bunch of traffic on the freeway tomorrow i'll get those numbers unless its another downpour that gets me hydroplaning, thats happened twice this winter where 60mph was all she would go. glad you didn't ask for 105 or 115mph cause then i could really go for it in the name of research. i did 125mph after i got my jic magic flt 2a coilovers. whoa doggies now that was fun..

That's with my fat 19 setup, which is about 5% slow on speedo reading, so if I read 80 it's really 84 I guess, and I checked again tonight, rpms are 3050 about at 80 on my speedo (84 reality).

Thats great news Bit, since from a overall diameter standpoint, the fat 19 and the 20 setup are about the same. So thats what I can look forward to. In my 1st Gen I remember doing about 3k at around 85mph with the 20s on so these numbers are fine.
I make the 370mile roundtrip trek from MA to NY about 2-3 times a month and I didnt want my engine buzzing on the highway! (like my uncles Audi TT)
well they shut down a couple of lanes of freeway this morning as some @sshole had carjacked a honda accord and then when the police cornered him on a frreway overpass the dumbsh*t jumped off the overpass and got runover in traffic. no big loss there but they shut down several lanes creating a traffic mess for me to go out in.
anyway i got up to 95 once for a few seconds while weaving thru the crowd. boy its hard to watch the tach, the speedo, the guy in the next lane and the car you're rapidly overtaking all at the same time. i think the tach at 95mph said 3600rpm. 85mph was 3300rpm and 75 was 3000rpm.
of course none of these readings were taken when i could just merrily speed along on cruise control and take my sweet time and get a real good look at the tack.
i can't believe it's become so hard to break the speed limit around here on interstate 5
trust me my friends i will be out there again tomorrow as i promised to take my wife to tacoma 15 miles south of where i live. hopefully we'll encounter some good conditions for speeding. i would really like to get you a reading for 105mph also. no extra charge. on the house.
i thought you were riding on 20's whats up with the 17's
Come up to MA, and i'll show you why the 20s are in the hallway for the winter!!! 17s are my winter chrome! LOL if they get a little pitted, who cares!
Check out what the road salt does to paint of a car, imagine what it would do to chrome!! LOL
i was editing my previous post and you put up that picture. cowabunga dude! i hope you're not out doing 100mph in those conditions. don't you have snow tires? what kind of tires do you have on the 17's?
i really like the snow & ice on the side of the car.
thats deeper than the snow we had last week, which was the most since 1996 and did i mention it got down to 20 degrees which is also the coldest since 1996. do you shovel the driveway or do you have some sort of machine that clears it? it looks at least a foot deep.
i'm going to put that picture up as my wallpaper for a while.
i didn't notice untill i looked at the wallpaper that the picture is of a maxima
Thanks for your contribution to scientific research! Basically, with the 3.76 gears, you are going 15 mph slower at the same rpm (approximately). For example with stock gearing I am going about 90 mph at 3,000rpm rather than 75.
The trade-off is simply higher rpm while cruising-whether or not that presents any problem is the question.
Other than reduced gas mileage (not a big concern of mine) I don't see it as an issue. Any loss in top speed capability is also a non-issue for me (I'm not interested in driving 150 mph!) I would rather have the acceleration enhancement from the LSD/3.76 gears and the TC and give up the top end if need be. I seldom go over 135 mph anyway
i have found that at 70 and 75mph and around 3000rpm that when i punch it the car seems to accelerate faster than the car did before i had the differential changed. i think it was bitkahuna who said its because you are getting into the sweet spot of the torque curve or something like that.
as far as gas it might be 2 miles a gallon diff.
and this engine is rock solid i read a post on the sc forum last night where one estimate was these V-8's could go 300-400 thousand and they never go bad before that
The extra couple of hundred rpms aren't going to matter at all. There's an added benefit too if you have an exhaust that drones at lower rpms - with the torsen diff, it goes away!
