VVTi not working?!
Using an xtool D7, I can see that the aim angle, ocv duty and angle change for the VVT on both banks of my 2012 IS250 (285K KM) don't change during all stages of a ride (verified during multiple rides, from ignition, acceleration, deceleration, cruising at different speeds, stop and go traffic, and coming to a stop). These values do change when running an actuation test with the same scan tool. Car tends to run rich (so total fuel trims are negative) most of the time, between 3-7% with a slight difference between the two banks. And the car has an occasional rattle on startup (they occur sometimes weeks apart). Any idea what could cause the ecu not to command the VVTi system to advance or retard? Appreciate any thoughts.
The usual suspects can be ruled out: MAF sensor, A/F sensors, throttle body, pcv valve and hoses, purge valve and hoses, air filter, amount and quality of engine oil, carbon buildup, worn out gaskets, coolant temp sensor.
