Default P0441/P0455 wiring harness issue

Hi everyone,

I am troubleshooting a P0441 + P0455 showing up in my 2008 IS350, so following the tech. manual I started checking the VSV purge valve.

Unfortunately the connector of the valve was broken and the cables remain connected, but I cannot confirm the correct position since my car has one black cable and one orange cable and the wiring diagram does not match this color code:

I tested the VSV purge valve by connecting the lower terminal to ground, and applying 12V from my battery and I can hear the valve clicking.

But when I turn my car and I cannot hear the valve clicking, it is like it is always closed. Even after more than 5 minutes of the car being ON there is no change in the signal that supposed to control the operation of the valve. In both terminals I read around 13V with my multimeter. I attach a video:

Also I can smell fuel odor while the car is idle.

Please advise.

Thanks!

Hello,

I have made a test with another VSV purge valve to test open/close control, and it seems applying battery voltage to either end activates it, which leads me to think that regardless of wiring position pin 1 or pin 2 for control signal the VSV purge valve should open/close upon command from the engine control module.

Please find attached pictures of my test configuration.

I also asked google about toyota VSV polarity and throw me this, I would appreciate any comments about polarization:

I would appreciate any comments on why would 13V be constantly being applied to both pins, which would make the valve remain closed always because there is no voltage difference between pins...no control signal being sent to open it...

Thanks.

Hey guys, small update.

Now I tested the VSV purge valve with Techstream. When I switch it to ON I can hear it, it sounds like "click click click click" continuously until I switch it OFF, similarly to how this guy's video :

Does any one know if that sound is normal ? or it is just how Techstream is testing that produces that frequent clicking sound?

Please let me know your thoughts.

Here are some pics of Techstream data while I run the test.

Thanks!

Hey everyone!

This is a follow up from my previous VSV purge valve check on TIS:

I have found in this website that the continuous clicking sound seems to be normal operation:

So if my VSV purge valve is not broken, what do you guys would recommend checking on next? another test ?

By the way, I have already replaced the fuel gas cap with an OEM a couple of years ago. I took a look at it and it does not look broken.

Thanks!

Ok so reading through this thread I got kind of lost. What exactly is the problem you are having with the purge valve?
